Curriculum Requirements
The direction for public education in Texas is driven by the legislature and is delegated to the State Board of Education as the chief governing body of public schools in Texas.
The philosophy of the State Board of Education established the framework for the goals of public school education. Public education is responsible for providing all students with the opportunity for development of knowledge, skills, and competencies that every student should possess to be a self-supporting, self-governing, and contributing member of society.
7th Grade
Brenham Junior High provides a multiple period day for instruction where students will enroll in seven classes. Course requirements mandated by the Texas Education Agency require students to enroll in English, Math, Science, and Social Studies.
Elective classes have the following requirements:
Foundations of Business and Technology
If not achieved in 6th grade-1 Fine Art Credit
1/2 credit of Beginning Art and 1/2 credit of Theatre Arts
Band
Choir
Dance/Brenadiers
8th Grade

In accordance with Texas Education Agency requirements, State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) performance data will be used to determine student placement in an academic support elective. Students who have not met grade-level performance standards on STAAR for two or more consecutive years and/or who have an Accelerated Education Plan (AEP) will be assigned to the FOCUS Time elective. This course provides targeted, evidence-based instruction and intervention designed to address identified skill gaps and support accelerated academic growth toward grade-level proficiency.
