Social-Emotional Learning

Extra support at West Hills STEM Academy

Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. Your student will get weekly SEL lessons from their classroom teacher. If your student faces a conflict at school, we will use Restorative practices to seek resolution.

Your student may get extra support from our Counselor (Ms. Clemmons) or our SEL Deans (Ms. Gallet & Ms. Pugh) throughout the year. Our team works together to help all students feel safe and loved. You may get phone calls from our team if your student needs additional support to meet school expectations, or if they are invited to join a small group. Hello! I am so excited to be joining the West Hills STEM family this year. This will be my 6th year as a school counselor. I have had the opportunity to work as a counselor in Hawaii and most recently Omaha, Nebraska. I am originally from the PNW and it feels great to be back home!

When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with my husband, our one year old son, and our goldendoodle, Nala. I love going to the beach, traveling, playing board games, trying my hand at DIY projects, and listening to Beyonce.

My favorite part about being a school counselor is the chance to help students reach their goals and ensuring every student feels seen, supported, and safe at school. I look forward to working with you all.

Hello Griffins! I am beyond eager to start another school year with you. This will be my second year at West Hills as a whole school support. Overall this is my 7th year in the education. We are a military family and we're have had the opportunity to live in five different states in the last nine years. I am originally from Iowa but am happy to call Bremerton my true home.

When I'm not at school, I enjoy being outside with my family mountain biking, hiking, and swimming. I like to create beautiful comfortable spaces to share with others.

My favorite part about working at West Hills is getting to know all our students, learning about their strengths, and creating strong connections.

I am joining the Griffin family this year as staff and parent! My family has lived in the West Hills neighborhood since 2012, so we are all excited to be Griffins. We love cheering for the Mariners, hiking in good weather, and hanging out with our friends.

I have worked in education for 14 years as a classroom STEM teacher, with additional administrative experience in the North Mason School District. Please email me directly or call the front office if you think your student in grades 3-5 could use additional social or emotional support this year.
