Click HERE to be taken to the website for Running Start at Olympic College
Running Start is an opportunity for juniors and seniors who have met most of their high school graduation requirements and wish to get started on college coursework. It also serves those students who would like to take courses that BHS does not offer. Because of the proximity of Olympic College, students may either attend OC full time, or take a combination of OC and BHS classes.
Deadlines for dropping or changing BHS classes apply to Running Start students. Therefore, to avoid gaps in enrollment and potential loss of credit, students are encouraged to begin their Running Start program in the Fall. Students starting later in the year may only be able to access Running Start classes outside the regular BHS day. See your counselor for more information.
See below for BHS' Running Start Guidelines and for the BHS/OC Course Equivalency Guide:
Once you and your parents/guardians have decided that Running Start is right for you, these are the steps to get enrolled.
If you don't already have one, create a Parchment account to be able to access your high school transcript. See 'Transcripts' in the Counseling Office site menu.
Apply to the college of your choice. See the college's website for application date deadlines. At Olympic College, be sure to indicate your student type as Running Start. Do NOT use your student email, use your personal email.
Once accepted, activate your student account (if required) and make an appointment to take the Accuplacer (if needed) and/or talk to your BHS counselor about other options to meet placement into English and/or Math classes. At OC, submit your transcript, Student-Parent Agreement, and test scores (if needed).
For colleges other than OC, you may need to apply separately to the Running Start program, following the steps and submitting required paperwork for that college.
Once accepted in the RS program, make an appointment with your BHS counselor to complete a Running Start Enrollment Verification Form (RSEVF) before June 18. For late applicants, BHS counselors will be unavailable for RSEVF appointments from June 19 until mid-August.
Make an appointment with your college RS Advisor to discuss your class choices and get a registration PIN (if needed). Submit your RSEVF electronically to your college at least 2 days ahead of your advising appointment.
