Tuesday, March 20 - First Day of Camp!

...and we are all exhausted! We had planned for around 85 campers and welcomed over 103 today. Despite the numbers, the counselors rocked it but are in need of some recharging, showers, and sleep.

Here are some highlights and takeaways from our day:

  • Having Thai students choose American names for their "passports" = awesome!
  • A massive game of rock-paper-scissors with the entire camp
  • Group sing and dance-a-longs (we learned some dance moves are universal!)
  • American Idol contest between families (songs included Yellow Submarine, We Are Family, Let it Go from Frozen, On the Road Again)
  • Kids realized teaching is tiring!
  • A mid-afternoon thunderstorm in Thailand does NOT drop the humidity! (Our weather app had the temperature at 97°F but the felt like temp at 109°F!)
  • Our dinner menu took a Thai twist on an American classic with a pork hamburger

We ended our day with some quiet reflection as we look to the days ahead, then hustled back to our rooms to take showers and share stories.
