Today we began our day with a tasty breakfast made by the Wishing Tree Resort chefs. It consisted of an assortment of meats, fruits, breads, and eggs. We tried new exotic fruits such as dragon fruit and papaya, and our stomachs were full after a hearty breakfast. After breakfast we played “get to know you names” as a whole group, making sure we knew everyone’s names, including the Thai counselors.

Next we planned the activities we would be doing to teach the campers English. Our group roles are divided between either being a club leader who runs activities such as team games, swimming, arts and crafts, cooking and backyard games and a small-group counselor who is in charge of around 12 Thai campers. All groups consist of at least one American counselor and one Thai counselor. Ms. Schmidt taught us ways to communicate with people who speak limited English, and we practice using gestures and repetition in everything we are doing! Camp My Town is using the entire resort, and we have renamed buildings as American cities. For example, our arts and crafts building is called "The Met," our main meeting space is "Washington, D.C." and the two dormitories are "Phoenix" and "Arizona." One of our tasks for the day was setting up "Customs," where campers will check in tomorrow morning, get their "passport," tshirts, and schedules.

Before dinner we had time to relax and hangout with friends and took a swimming test which was also a great way to cool off. Wishing Tree resort is on a beautiful river, and our dinner was an outdoor Thai barbecue looking over the river and sunset. Some of us took a walk by the river afterwards before coming back inside to finalize our plans for the exciting week ahead! We are hoping to get a good nights rest in preparation for the first day of camp tomorrow!
