Breck Tech Expectations

The Purpose

The Dedicated Breck Tech Crews will help set up, run, and tear down known yearly scheduled events.

The teams will regularly meet

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday after school 3:30pm - 5:15pm.

Crew calls for load in, operations and strike will be listed on the calendar.

Though the team will be expected to be at the initial set up and following tear down where applicable. Not every event will require a large crew to run the event itself. So not every student would need to be at every event.

Strike for Dedicated Breck Tech Members is Mandatory for plays and musicals.

Part time opportunities: Are offered in the form of scenic construction, painting, as those require less training and are required for plays and musicals only. Light hang or re-focus can also be an option as they will be done periodically through the year.

The schedule will be available on the calendar.

Safety, It's everyone's responsibility.

Safety is our first priority in all we do. The expectation that students and staff adhere to safety procedures is paramount. This includes safe conduct when working with power tools, working overhead in catwalks, using calls and responses for all activities that impact the stage as a whole. This does not merely mean following the rules, but inquiring about and reporting unsafe practices to appropriate faculty members. Theaters are amazing places, but also have their inherent risks. We will be disciplined and conduct ourselves in a safe manner at all times.

Saws and Power Tools:  All Power Tool use must be conducted with a trained faculty member present once the safety testing has been passed

Hanging lights and catwalk work (trained faculty supervision and safety equipment is required) (US Students only)

Fly Lines and rigging (trained faculty supervision and safety equipment is required. Attendance at a training session with a certified Rigging Inspector required for Power Lifter Achievement)

ALL FLYLINE, CATWALK & POWER TOOL USE MUST BE DONE UNDER TRAINED ADULT SUPERVISION

Event Schedules:

Teams will not be required to run multiple events over multiple nights in the same week. Students who volunteer for back to back events will only be selected if no others request the position. The intention is a band concert on Tuesday will ideally not have the same team running a choir concert on Thursday.

The exception to this is plays and musicals where crews will need to be consistent from the first performance to last as much as possible.

Tech Crew Skills, Abilities and Roles:

Breck Tech students will have the opportunity to gain skills, abilities and roles as your knowledge grows.

Those with more experience will be have first opportunity for design and leadership roles. In addition these leaders will be  tasked with mentoring the newer members of their respective teams.

Recognition of these achievements will be awarded just before Christmas break and the last week of May.

1st semester Setting of the Ghost light is December 13th & 15th.

Follow this link for a breakdown of the skills, abilities and roles, and their requirements

Academic Eligibility

Dedicated Breck Tech Students will maintain a C or better in all their classes in order to be able to participate. If grades in any class fall in to C territory, We will have regular check in's until the grade improves.

If any overall grades fall below a C-, Breck Tech team members will be pulled from their scheduled events to be given the opportunity to go and get caught up on their work.

Improving Our Process (currently US students only)

In addition to the betterment of quality of Breck’s productions for both the performing arts and other events, students will be able to participate in competitions such as the Hennepin Theater Trust Spotlight Awards for Technical Theater.
