Students will develop an understanding of various types of work experiences. Students will discuss the benefits of working in area businesses and prepare for their placement through assessments and orientations. Students will develop an understanding of appropriate social skills, quality of work, and quantity of work in the workplace in order to be better prepared for the real world.
The purpose of this module is to familiarize students with the concepts of self-awareness and self-advocacy, provide students opportunities to identify and discuss their strengths and needs, and help them identify questions they have regarding self-awareness and self-advocacy. Additionally, students are introduced to their IEP for a better understanding and will conduct their own IEP meeting through a presentation.
Students will be able to describe their future lifestyle and relate the importance of choosing an occupation that has the salary requirements necessary to achieve it. Students will also develop an awareness of other factors that will impact their lifestyle
Students will identify attitudes and behaviors necessary for job success. Students will demonstrate an understanding of how to apply positive decision-making skills on the job and define what strong work ethic is. Students will explore characteristics of professionalism and discuss how unprofessional behavior can potentially impact a career.
Students will practice filling out job applications to familiarize them with the process, the language, and the personal information required. Students will be able to write a resume showing their skills, experiences and education that they can use when applying for a job. Students will practice job interview skills, discuss and recognize the do’s and don’ts, and participate in a mock interview.
MOVING OUT
Students will set up a budget that includes rent, moving expenses, and expenses associated with setting up a household and the costs of living on their own. Develop the skills and knowledge necessary to interpret lease and rental agreements. Understand the rights and legal responsibilities of a tenant. Students practice the important life skill of reading utility bills. setting up utilities, and making appointments. Students will also learn basic household responsibilities and maintenance skills.
