My name is Shelly Schantz and this is my nineteenth year in the Brandon School District! The majority of my years in Brandon have been spent teaching 3rd grade, I have also taught a 2nd and 4th grades. In addition, I came to Brandon with over 15 years experience teaching preschool, junior kindergarten, and providing child care. I am excited to begin working with our 5th grade students!
I graduated from Central Michigan University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Child Development with a minor in Family Life. When my youngest of three children went to kindergarten, I returned to the classroom to further my credentials as an educator. I completed Oakland University’s Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Certification program and received my teaching certificate with endorsements in Mathematics and Language Arts. I continued at Oakland University to earn my Masters of Arts in Teaching Reading and Language Arts as well as an Ed Specialist in Educational Leadership.
Children are very important to me and therefore, teaching is as well. I strive to provide a fun yet, safe and consistent environment for your child to learn. It is my belief that children develop skills at different rates and all children deserve to learn new things daily. I believe in meeting the academic, social, and emotional needs needs of all students. I strive to develop the joy of learning and a can do attitude in my students.
I look forward to meeting with you throughout this school year. Your involvement and support mean a lot to me and to your child. If you have any concerns or questions, I can be reached at the school, (248)627-1880 or you may email me at sschantz@brandon.k12.mi.us
I have 3 adult children who are each unique and special in thier own ways. My two older children graduated from Waterford Kettering, while my youngest child is a proud graduate of Brandon High School. In her words, "Brandon is a great community!" I have to agree, I love teaching and being a part of the Brandon family! Your children pretty much become "my own" during the course of the school year!
