Students were assigned Part II of the assessment and had the hour to work on those.
Students read and worked on their article of the week and then spent the rest of the time writing their character analysis paragraphs, which is Part I of their assessment for this unit.
Students had the class period to work on the work for this week including reader's notebook entries, character charts, conflict charts, literature circle, and reading.
Students took the NWEA Reading test today
This week's focus is on mood and tone. Students will work on a new assignment with that in mind and will also work on their weekly work: reading, notebook entries, conflict and character charts, etc.

Students completed this week's Article of the Week assignment. We also discussed the amount of missing work I am seeing in the first couple weeks of this unit, so if you or your student are missing any assignments, please get them done and let me know ASAP.
Then, they had about 45 minutes to get started on this week's work, which includes:
2-3 new Reader's Notebook entries
Week 2 Lit Circle Discussion
Continue working on the Character Tracker
Continue working on Conflict Sheet
Read the pages noted on the calendar.
Students had this time to finish up their work for the week. They should have 2-3 reader's notebook entries, a good start on their character tracker, written and responded to their group members in their literature circle group, and began working on the conflict sheet for their main character.
Students completed the article of the week and then had the rest of our block to work on independent novel materials (reading, conferencing, online discussion groups, character tracker, readers' notebook entries, etc).
Today in class, we went over a new assignment, the character tracker. This will be useful as we move through this novel. Then we began our first round of conferences to discuss their novels. Students read and worked on both their reader's notebook entries and their character trackers.
Students filled out their reading calendar. Books must be finished by 5/12. They can decide how much and how often they read. The only requirement is that they read each day we have class together.
Students then completed the Book Choice assignment in Google Classroom and began reading their books.

Students were asked to interview a classmate and create a 10 slide Google Slides presentation to introduce their partner to us. Some students presented today. Those who did not will present on Friday/Monday.
Today was the first day of semester two. We took care of looking over the syllabus, completing two "Get to Know You" activities and were introduced to "Article of the Week," which is something we will be spending 20-30 minutes on each week.
