The Paradis Lab at Brandeis

Exploring the molecular and genetic basis of neuronal connectivity

Our Research

Research in the Paradis laboratory seeks to define the genes that instruct neurons to establish and modify their synaptic connections and dendritic morphology, both during normal development and in response to changes in sensory experience. We employ biochemical, molecular, electrophysiological, genetic, behavioral and imaging approaches, both in vitro and in vivo, to study the function of these genes in neuronal development and circuit function. As an inroad to studying these critical questions, our research has focused on elucidating the function of genes and signaling pathways which we have shown play a role in these processes including Rem2 and Sema4D. Our overall goal is to understand how mis-wiring of neural networks contributes to neurological disorders. Therefore, we are pursuing translational opportunities, based on our results, which will impact the treatment and understanding of seizure disorders in humans.

We are working to develop a novel anti-seizure therapeutic. Join our Team!

Our Lab Ethos

We believe that a diverse and inclusive community is a prerequisite for success in scientific discovery. We welcome people from all races, ethnicities, gender identities, sexual orientations, religions, countries of origin, ages, and abilities. We do great science by working together, respecting one another, sharing our collective knowledge, and occasionally even having fun.
