Pursuant to Act 237 of 2023 (AR LEARNS), all students graduating in the 2027-2028 school year and beyond are required to complete a minimum of 75 documented community service hours prior to graduation. Students may begin counting community service hours the summer before their 9th-grade year, and there is no minimum number of hours required each year. Students may earn hours at their own pace. For example, a student who completes 30 hours during 9th grade and 45 hours during 10th grade will have already met the 75-hour graduation requirement. Community Service Learning refers to volunteer work that benefits the community and promotes social responsibility. Students cannot receive community service credit for any work for which they are paid.

Examples of qualifying community service include:

✔️ Helping with Vacation Bible School (VBS)

✔️ Assisting with summer camps (athletics, cheer, dance, band, JROTC, FFA, etc.)

✔️ Volunteering at an animal shelter, food bank, or other community organizations

When submitting hours, students must provide the name and contact information of an adult who can verify their service if needed.

If a student completes community service with a Brookland School District staff member, the student is still responsible for completing the Community Service Google Form to receive credit.
