Omelas Allegory Activity
Turn to page 8 of your short story packet.
Get into groups of 3-4.
Decide on group roles (leader, philosopher, recorder, presenter).
Only 1 student needs to use their computer to play the video for group members.
Go to the Short Story / Science Fiction tab of our website.
Maximize/watch the video segment to learn about the issue.
Answer the ‘Apply the Allegory’ questions on a separate sheet of paper / ask Mr. Bellini questions.
1. Sweatshops / Forced Labor
Maximize the video and watch the whole thing.
2. Factory Farms
Maximize and watch the entire video.
3. Homelessness
Maximize the video and watch it from 0:00 till 5:45, and then from 13:55 to the end.
(This topic admittedly doesn't work as well for the allegory.)
4. Conflict Diamonds
Maximize the video and watch it from 7:30 till the end.
5. Chocolate
Maximize the video and watch it from :55 till 7:30.
