Hello Families!
Ms. Cummins and I first want to say thank you for being so amazing and stepping up to help us during this very difficult time. We are so appreciative to all of you! We know how hard you are all working to keep your student's on track and truly it means a lot to us.
After many days of planning we have finally created a classroom schedule that we believe will help to support your student during the school closure. In this schedule we will be hosting zoom sessions where we will virtually teach!
What is the schedule for online sessions?
9:45-10:45 Morning Meeting/Math
Monday, Wednesday, Friday - Whole class
Tuesday, Thursday - Individual check ins (sign up via signup.com)
11:00-12:00 Reading
Read Aloud Tuesday/Thursday
Monday, Wednesday, Friday -Readworks articles due by the end of the week. 3 for the week. Choice on which article they want to complete each day.
*Make sure to also read 30 minutes daily. Twice a week your child will fill out an online reading log accessed through their BPS gmail account.

We understand that there are a few moving pieces given that there will be multiple zoom sessions throughout the day, but we felt as though this schedule reflects the best balance between interaction with teachers and mimicking an actual day in school.
What about specials?
In terms of specials, here are the specials students would have throughout the week and ideas on how to simulate them at home. Specials are typically 50 minutes long.
Playworks
Get outside for some fresh air! Play a game of catch or tag with someone around you.
Teach someone your favorite playworks game.
Go to gonoodle.com if the weather isn’t great for some indoor energy burning. This app is on Ms. Simmonds teacher page in Clever.
Music
The Chrome Music Lab app to explore listed under the “Arts” category in Clever.
Dance Party Coding, also found in Clever, combines learning to code with music
If you have any great ideas for music instruction, please let us know!
Art
Ms. Leesa has created an online art studio that students have access to through their Clever accounts. Click on her teacher page to access the studio.
Science
Mr. Springer has recommended a few websites to explore.
Rangerrick.org (offering a free 3 month subscription)
Brainpop.com (has so much content but can be used for science learning)

This is great! When does this all start?!
We will host our first online session this Wednesday March 25th, starting at 9:45am. We will follow the Wednesday schedule that day.
What does the weekly schedule look like?
A weekly schedule is attached here Grade 2 Schedule for you and your student’s benefit.
How do I know when my child’s individual check in is?
You will be able to sign up for individual check ins on Friday March 27th. We will send out an online sign up for you to choose one day (either Tuesday or Thursday) and time that your student will be able to meet with a teacher.
On the schedule the specials have two options. Which one should my student do?
On those days, students would typically have two specials. You can choose for them to break up that time (25 minutes for each special) or you can pick one special for the entire block.
How will my student access these links through their own Chromebook?
We will be sending out individual emails to students with the zoom and reading log links. If possible, you may need to help them access their email accounts the first few times. (This too is on the Clever backpack, click on the Gmail link)
My student student and I are feeling stressed and overwhelmed during this time. What can we do?
Our amazing Ms. Witte has created a Manning Counseling website that has amazing tools to help adults and young ones cope with this difficult time. It can be accessed here. She also office hours where you can schedule zoom check ins with either herself or Ms. Kang, her intern. It’s a wonderful site and you should definitely check it out!
How you can help us during zoom sessions:
We will facilitate the teaching during this time, but if you can be around to help with any technical issues that may arise, it would be helpful!
If possible, have your student use headphones to not disturb others that may also be working or learning from home!
Have your student be supplied with blank paper and a pencil while learning. There will be moments where they will complete problems so it would be helpful for them to be able to do their work.
We’re sure there will be hiccups throughout this process but we’ll pivot when necessary and will keep persevering!
We hope everyone is staying safe and healthy. We’ll see you soon through the digital world!
-Your 2nd Grade Team
