  2. Lightly sketch with pencil the general shapes and relative angles, keeping perspective POSITION of viewer, HORIZON LINE, and VANISHING POINT in mind (reference videos 1 & 2).

Lesson 3: Landscape Drawing

Supplies: pencil with eraser, colored pencils/makers, sheet of white paper

Instructions:

  1. Work from your mind, or choose an image from Google to create an outdoor landscape scene (ex. mountain view, river, forest, field etc. can include animals).

  2. Try to think of each object as a simple shape, which can make it easier to draw.

  3. Draw in layers of proximity, what is close up vs. far in the distance, and start drawing from FAR to CLOSE (refer to video examples).

  4. Use the knowledge and instruction from the previous 2 lessons to depict proper depth perception and shading.

  5. Finish piece by adding color and filling in the entirety of the page.

Lesson 4: Portrait Drawing

Supplies: pencil with eraser, sheet of white paper

Instructions:

  1. Find a picture or take a new one of a face (can be anybody including yourself). Please use an actual picture to refer to here, not from your mind.

  2. Use knowledge and practice from previous lesson to emulate the facial shapes as accurately as possible. Start with a lightly sketched basic outline (vertical oval), draw light lines to where the ears, eyes, nose and mouth will be. Generally, a good place to start is at the ears which are about half way between the top and bottom of the head, the eyes are on nearly the same horizontal line, with nose just below, and then mouth at the bottom half. These measurement will vary with each unique face (refer to video examples).

  3. Once parts of the face are in proper position, draw in more details to match picture including shading tones and shadows, skin wrinkles or creases, any head/facial hair etc.

  4. Leave this portrait as pencil only.

Lesson 5: Character Drawing (solo)

Supplies: pencil with eraser, sheet of white paper, colored pencils/markers, ruler / straight edge

Instructions:

+ Choose an animated character from your favorite show/cartoon/comic (full body, not just face).

+ Lightly sketch with pencil the outline of the image using the identifiable shapes that compose the big picture. Fill as much of the page as possible (make character medium-large in size not too small).

+ Once accurate as possible, follow by making harder lines and shading/filling in needed areas with color.

Lesson 6: Creative Signature

Supplies: Pencil or pen and 2 sheets of blank paper

Instructions:

+ Write your name in a flowing signature 20+ times (you don't have to put full name, could be partial, see example mine is just: I.Camp).

+ Make it subtly different each time, let the idea flow and evolve naturally in a cool and unique way.

+ Once you have several variations and get it to a point of where you like it, make one large version on the second sheet of paper.

Lesson 7: Custom Tag

Supplies: Pencil or pen (colors) and 1-2 sheets of blank paper

Instructions:

+ Use your creative signature from the last lesson OR make an abbreviated word slogan (for example if your artist/stage name is: UNKNOWN could be UNKXWN). Let it flow and evolve! (see example).

+ Use your same signature technique to draw out a large version of this filling out utmost of the page of paper.

+ Finish by adding coloring or shading in a creative free way.
