ESP Brochure PDF Download

The Educator Supports Program's (ESP) mission is to strengthen student learning and teacher performance with coaching and evaluation that feels fair, transparent, and humane to all stakeholders.

Description

ESP is a partnership between Boston Public Schools (BPS) and Boston Teachers Union (BTU). We work with educators who have been rated less than proficient in the educator evaluation system. Teachers can volunteer to have an experienced peer (called a Consulting Teacher) visit their classroom on a regular basis to serve as their coach and/or primary evaluator.

Consulting Teachers (CTs) are skilled, veteran teachers who work with you to improve planning, classroom management, and instructional strategies. They can observe, give feedback, plan, model, troubleshoot, and provide support in the areas where you need to improve. They will also make a recommendation for a rating to the ESP Panel. CTs can support a caseload of up to 12 teachers.

She was also a school-based instructor for TechGoesHome. Daniel Sullivan

Dan Sullivan is a true product of the Boston Public Schools. He was a BPS student from preschool through highschool and is the child of two BPS educators. After graduating from the Boston Arts Academy (2003, Instrumental Music), he earned a BA in History and Sociology from UMASS Boston (2008) and a Masters in the Art of Teaching from Tufts University through the Urban Teacher Training Collaborative program (2009). In his fourteen years of teaching in BPS (Brighton High School and Boston Arts Academy), Dan has taught Humanities, History, ELA, Aesthetic Philosophy, Art history, and Film history and production–all in a full-inclusion environment. Dan has also chaired the 11th and 12th grade ELA department, Humanities department, and hiring committees, as well as serving regularly on the Instructional Leadership Team, the School Board of Trustees, and the Professional Development Committee.

Dan believes that at the heart of being an educator is one's ability to earn trust, that teaching is a partnership between teacher and student; if that relationship is not built on a mutual respect and understanding for each other's hopes and dreams, learning will always suffer. Dan’s passions for education center around keeping learning joyful, cultivating curiosity and discourse, and believing that young people will make the world a better place. Dan currently lives in Boston’s Hyde Park neighborhood and has three children in Boston Public Schools. In addition to his work in schools, Dan is also a filmmaker and musician who co-owns a film production company. Through the ESP program, Dan hopes to serve the students and teachers of Boston to help make BPS the best it can be.
