Make a schedule for your day! Hold yourself accountable for accomplishing your work, and celebrate your success after you accomplish all of your tasks each day! Create fun visuals that will make you feel proud of all that you're doing and fill your schedule with a balance of work, movement and self-care!
“Show Up” each day ready to engage in the work. Imagine you are sitting with Ms. DiSarcina in Math or that Mr. Murphy's voice is filling the room with excitement!
Create a routine just like you do every day when you came into school at the Eliot. The only difference is you don't have to commute to school! Create a schedule like the examples above and treat each class like a regular learning period at the Eliot.
Set goals, and check in with yourself daily/weekly to see if you're meeting them!
Make due dates and give yourself reminders for assignments and requirements.
If you’re having trouble holding yourself responsible as for help! Accountability partners can be parents, roommates, friends, or even your teachers!
Create a schedule designating times, days and due dates. Reward yourself when you've successfully completed something by crossing it off, or marking is as DONE!
This will keep you organized and is a great way to keep all of your materials together in one place so they do not get lost around the house.
Make sure the space you choose is comfortable, has limited distractions so that you can do your best work!
This can be challenging because there are so many things going on at home, but focus on the ones you can control.
Turn off your cell phone or leave it in the other room
Wear headphones or shut the door if you need to.
Reward yourself with breaks in your schedule so that you can build your learning stamina.
Once you figure out where you are going to work, then thing about what are the things that will help you learn the best and put that into your schedule. For example…if you’re not a morning person, don’t start your learning time first thing when you wake up. Have breakfast, give your brain time to wake up and then dive into your learning for the day. If you’re someone that needs to move a lot, schedule lots of movement breaks throughout the day. Not everyone learns the same way so explore strategies that will work best for you!
The more you are involved in your google class, the more you will get from it! Make sure you ask questions and utilize all of the resources teachers are preparing for you.
Be proactive in asking for help if you need it. Teachers are very ready to support you with whatever you need
Predetermine when and how long breaks will be and stick to it. When you're working hard its healthy to know that scheduled breaks are coming. This gives you motivation to work harder and better and faster.
Plan the biggest reward at the end. If you’ve been really looking forward to something, an art project, a fun activity with friends, or even a new game save it for your final break/reward.
We are a community! Leverage your network!
You may start to feel very alone when you’re learning at home and that is okay, but please know everyone is going through the same thing, even your teachers!! Lean on one another, ask questions, reach out to friends, family, teachers and Eliot staff. Email, call, FaceTime, google hangouts…while they may not be the same as hanging together on the Eliot Playground…we are still all here for you!
