Dear Adams Families!
Good afternoon! We hope you are enjoying this beautiful day.
The 5 day return to school for all in-person students will be Monday, April 26th. On April 26th, BPS will initiate a NEW attendance policy: Per district guidelines, families must select 5-day in person or remote learning. The virtual learning will no longer be available for in-person students after April 26th. However, we recognize that certain situations, such as sickness or other COVID-related reasons, may prohibit a student from attending in-person on occasion. In the event that your child can not attend in-person, we ask that you communicate with your child’s school as early as possible with the reason and timeframe for switching to remote learning. Later today, we will send our updated Learning protocol slides to support families who will be returning for the first time.
Please note, next Wednesday, April 14th is A REMOTE DAY. There are no in person classes on Wednesday, April 14th. Also, there will be no assemblies and remote learning will end at 10:15. Students in grades 4,5,6 will still have violin and band..
Reminder! Our School Parent Council is holding a FUNDrive tomorrow, April 10th from 8am-12pm. Donate old clothes or textiles to the school. We will receive $0.25 per pound of donated goods! If you would like to volunteer to support these efforts, please fill out the attached form.
Would you like to donate to the Adams School School Parent Council? Funding goes towards assembly supplies, books for classrooms, events and goods. You now can Venmo your donations to: @adamsschoolspc
Just a reminder, we will have April break next week. There will be no school April 19-April 23.
The doors open at 7:20 for breakfast. Students are considered tardy after 7:30. Please get your children to school on time.
Students in K2 and Grade 1 will be dismissed on the left side of the school. K1, grade 2 and grade 3 will be dismissed from the right side. The walkers in grades 4-6 will be dismissed at 2:03.
Please take a look at the list of many exciting summer opportunities. From summer camps, programs and summer jobs for older children, please take a look at the lists.

Dear Adams Families!
The air is warm, the sun is shining and with the clocks moving ahead this weekend, more daylight is in our future!
We can’t wait to welcome back our in person 4th-6th graders on Monday and Thursday. Families should have received cohort model notification this week via Talking Points. If you did not receive this notice, please contact the school or email Principal Cruz. (jmckeigue2@bostonpublicschools.org).
Just a reminder the arrival and dismissal procedures are different this year. Many of our neighbors are home working so there are fewer parking spaces. Also, to ensure social distancing, we dismiss buses first. When the buses are mostly loaded, we dismiss walkers. We understand that this may be causing some delays.
We have 3 asks for this week:
We are celebrating how our differences make our community special. We have asked students to send us pictures or writing that highlights what makes them unique. Please send these to adams@bostonpublicschools.org.
Enrollment is open for the 2021-2022 school year. If you have any friends or families looking to become a part of this amazing community, please contact the Welcome Center- 617-635-9046. We are excited to continue to grow and work together.
Many of you have heard the Commissioner of Education is looking to bring all students back to school. The Boston Public Schools will be sending a survey to all families in the coming days. Please make sure to fill out the survey.
Have a goodnight!
It was a wonderful week as we were able to welcome our youngest learners back. Hearing the sounds of footsteps and laughter in the halls brought so much joy to our staff. We know that there may have been some changes in schedules. We appreciate your understanding as we continue to adapt to best meet the needs of our students.

Happy February! Although we are sad that students were unable to return today we wanted to celebrate our community, the snow and each other.
Our School Parent Council will be using the play dough kit from the new supply bags to make a play dough snow person. Please do not worry if you did pick up your bag, we will send the video with directions for your child to complete at a later date. We wanted to take this opportunity to gather as a school and have some fun.
Tomorrow we will dismiss at 11:40. Wednesday we will have our regular schedule with the afternoon assemblies.
We will welcome our High In Person Priority Students on Thursday. Please email us if you have any questions about returning.
Please stay safe in the snow.
We are following up on the communication provided by Mayor Walsh and Superintendent Cassellius this evening regarding the upcoming winter storm. Due to the weather forecast calling for several inches of snow tonight and into tomorrow, all BPS school buildings including the Adams School will be closed tomorrow, Monday, February 1, 2021 and Tuesday, February 2, 2021.
All students will participate in remote learning tomorrow from 8:00 AM to 11:40 AM. All synchronous Adams instruction will end at 11:40 am.
Buses will not be running tomorrow. All BPS students, including students who were scheduled to report to school in-person, will attend classes online for a partial day that will end 2.5 hours earlier than the regularly scheduled dismissal time.
The Adams School day will begin at 8:00 am and students will continue their remote learning schedule until 11:40 am.
For more information on the winter weather, please call 311 or visit boston.gov/snow. BPS meal distribution sites will be open on Monday, February 1 from 10:00 AM. to 2:00 PM All BYCF meal sites will be closed on Monday. Residents are encouraged to check with their non-BPS meal sites for hours.
Stay tuned for information for a special whole school assembly on Tuesday morning at 8:00 AM
Good Afternoon Adams Families!
I sit here in an empty school listening to the freezing wind blowing against the building. I hope that you are all staying warm in this cold weather.
On Monday, we will welcome back 52 students. We have called all of the families who will be returning. If your child is coming back, please make sure that you send the chromebook, the charger, layers of clothes, a mask and a water bottle to school.
We can’t wait to hear student voices and laughter in the school. We will send out our reopening guide to families later this afternoon. Adams teachers will continue to plan engaging lessons for students both in person and remote.
The current reopening plan is as follows:

Good Afternoon Adams Families!
Thank you for your continued participation and support over the past days, weeks and months. I am proud to announce that we continue to shine in the district as far as daily attendance. This is because of your continued support and commitment. Thank you.
you should receive an email from the district asking if you would like to make any changes to your learning model. If you would like to shift from remote to hybrid or hybrid to remote. Please take a moment to complete this survey so we can ensure resources and safety measures are in place for the students to return.
Our Core Value of the month is positivity. During challenging times, we have learned that the power of positivity can have a tremendous impact on student outcome. People with a positive viewpoint have less stress, better creative problem-solving skills, and better health outcomes than less optimistic people. This week, we have asked our students to write or take pictures of the ways that they demonstrate positivity in their community. Please send the writing or pictures to: adams@bostonpublicschools.org.
we will send you a link to our School Parent Council List Serve. This will allow families to connect, provide feedback and suggestions on ways that we can improve at the Adams school. We currently have 6 families on this list. Let’s get to 250! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSePTb_4_fX9sDCFFZKOeCXoOmnctZq-9mL7rQiGk0sgGb4XjA/viewform
Please make sure that you are registering your child for 7th grade. We will email information packets later today to 6th grade families.
If you are in need of support paying rent or paying bills, there are more resources available. Please contact Rogelia, 857-204-7234 or Madelin, 617-602-3617 to set up an appointment for assistance.
there will be no classes on Monday in Honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Day. We will see students virtually on Tuesday.

Good Afternoon Adams Families!
We understand that this week has been a challenging week for our country as we watched the violence take over the capital in efforts to harm our democratic system. My 10 year old and my 7 year old shared many questions and I have to admit it was hard to process with them when I struggled to process with the events on my own. As a parent, I am committed to creating a safe environment where my children feel loved and valued. As a school, we are committed to these same ideas. We are committed to work collaboratively to make a better future for our children. Later today, in an email, I will share some resources that address how we talk to children about violence. These resources are in Spanish and English.
Grade 6 Registration is now open. We will send registration packets to families next week. If 6th grade families would like support in registration, please let the school know.
Our School Parent Council will meet on Monday, January 11th at 4:30. All families are always invited to attend! Our goal for 2021 is to have more families join! You can find the link here.
we will have School Site Council on Wednesday, January 13th at 2:30. Again, all members are invited to attend. Next week we will discuss the 2021-2022 school budget. You can find the link here.
Sunday will be the last day to submit Snowman pictures from our pre-winter break assemblies to adamsschoolspc@gmail.com. Here is a link to the video later today. There will be one prize for each grade.
Have a restful weekend. Stay safe, be well.

Thank you to the families who have filled out the Remote Learning Survey. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey as it will help us in planning for the upcoming months and years.
we will celebrate our school spirit with a Winter Wonderland theme. Students may dress up for remote learning in winter colors or patterns. Maybe a white or blue outfit? Sparkles? Snow suits? Winter characters? Anything goes. We want to celebrate the end of 2020 and the start of the new year.
on Wednesday, during assemblies, our School Parent Council will have a fun art activity. Please make sure your child has a piece of paper and a pencil before it starts!

Greetings Adams Families!
I hope this call finds you safe and well. As you may have heard, 28 schools were identified for reopening for High Needs students on December 14, 2020. The Adams was not identified as one of the 28 schools. Schools were chosen based on the number of High in Person priority Students who chose the Hybrid Instruction Model. The Adams School and staff are excited to prepare for reopening soon. We look forward to receiving additional information from the BPS Central Office regarding the earliest possible date for in person learning to resume.
The district has sent a survey to all families emails to figure out how to best support schools during this time. As of Friday, we 26% of our families have completed the survey. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey.
Please add your contact information to our School Parent Council List Serve. The School Parent Council will use this list to communicate things happening at the school and within our community. The link will be sent later today.
During Assemblies this week, we discussed the value of diversity and the importance of inclusion. We shared pictures of our families and words that describe our families. Please send a picture of your family to adams@bostonpublicschools.org. We will include this in our weekly assembly slide show. Please send by Tuesday, December 15th!

We hope you have had a productive week.
During the month of November we will highlight the Core Value of being Helpful. As a school community, we feel that it is important that we are helpful to ourselves and others. Reminding our children to support each other on zooms by listening when others are speaking or contributing to class conversations will help them in their own learning.
We also want to encourage students to be helpful at home by making their beds or putting away dishes. Please send us any pictures of your child being helpful at home. You can send them to Adams@bostonpublicschools.org. Please write the word “Helpful” in the subject line. We will include these pictures in our school slide show during our assembly on Wednesday.
As helpful is a value we want to share with families, during last night’s listening campaign families asked for us to prioritize finding resources for childcare, financial stability and rental support. If you would like to volunteer or have ideas to create a network to support families, please contact the school.
Students in Grades K-2 are from 1:00-1:30 and grades 3-5 from 1:30-2:00.
On Monday, families who receive ABA will have a meeting form 6 to 7 PM. This meeting will provide space for families to connect as well as share concerns and needs for your children. Here is the link:

Also, boxes of food will be distributed at the Eastie Farm on Sumner Street on Tuesday and Wednesday at 5:30 and Thursdays at 3:30. Eastie Farm is located between ZUMIX and Italian Express.

Good Afternoon Fabulous Families,
We are writing with an update from Boston Public Schools and the City of Boston regarding the status of school reopening. In addition, you will be receiving communication from the city and the district this morning.
Starting tomorrow, Thursday October 22nd, all students will shift to remote-only learning in all BPS schools. The Boston citywide 7 day test-positivity rate has increased to 5.7% from 4.5% the previous week. With that in mind and the continued upward trend in Covid activity, Mayor Walsh and Superintendent Cassellius have decided to suspend all in-person learning starting immediately.
Effective tomorrow, all students will learn remotely until public health data shows a consistent downward trend. Students will return to in-person learning when it is safe to do so. This decision will be made by the Boston Public Health Commission (BPHC).
Once the citywide seven-day COVID-19 positivity rate is below 5% for two consecutive weeks, In-Person Priority students will have the option to return to in-person learning. When the citywide seven-day COVID-19 positivity rate is below 4% for two consecutive weeks, BPS will restart the phased-in return of students for in-person learning, beginning with our youngest students and continuing with our older learners in the following weeks. If all the data immediately hits those benchmarks, the soonest date In-Person Priority Students could return to the building would be Monday, November 9th.
The school will be open for staff tomorrow and Friday. We have 39 families that still need to pick up their supply bags. We will text you if there is a bag here for you to pick up.
We continue to recognize the uncertainty these updates provide and their direct impact to our school community. Please continue to check your email and What’s App, as it is likely we will have more updates to share over the next few days. We are here to support one another. Please reach out with any questions. We are so grateful for our caring, committed, and collaborative community.
We are stronger together.

Good afternoon families!
Happy Friday. On Monday there will be no in-person or Remote Learning as we recognize Indigenous People day. Again, there will be no classes on Monday, October 12th.
We want to thank all of the families who attended our Virtual Open House On Wednesday. I will send the slideshow later this evening. Please take a moment to view the amazing video created by our School Parent Council, (SPC). We hope that you will consider joining the SPC this year.
Next week, we are excited to offer our second supply pick up hours. Pick-up times will be Wednesday, October 14th from 10:00-12:30 and Friday, October 16th from 2:30-4:30. Included in these supplies, you will find a $50 Staples Card!
If you are in need of financial support due to the Coronavirus crisis you can apply for support from The Unafraid Educators Relief Fund for Students and Families. All BPS students and their families are eligible to apply. Immigrants are welcome to apply, regardless of legal status. If you need support filling out this form, please contact the school on Tuesday.
Finally, we would love to see pictures of your students engaging in learning at home. If you would like to send us a picture of your child to include in a slide show for our Wednesday Assembly, please send it to adams@bostonpublicschools.org. In the subject line, please write the word “photo.”
Have a relaxing long weekend hopefully away from the screens!

The goal for this event is to connect as a school community, learn about our amazing School Parent Council and meet and connect with classroom teachers. We hope to see you this evening.

As many of you know, earlier today, Mayor Walsh and Superintendent Cassellius announced that the Boston Public Schools will be delaying the next phase of in-person learning due to recent changes in public health data. This means that students who are expected to return to school on October 15th or October 19th will be delayed by a few weeks, as part of the city’s strategy to slow the spread of the Coronavirus.
While we await updates on public health data, the city and the Teachers Union are working to figure out how to provide learning and support for our priority students who have already returned to school. At the moment, understanding that things are changing rapidly, the students who have come in may continue to come to school on A or B cohort days.
If you have questions about remote learning or need access to a Chromebook, please contact 617-635-8383. BPS is providing free meals for students in remote learning, more information can be found at https://www.bostonpublicschools.org/freemeals. .

Good afternoon families!
Thank you for your patience today as we navigated our first day of remote learning. We know that there may have been some challenges logging on today so we thank you all for your patience and understanding. It will take some time to get accustomed to the classes and getting comfortable with online learning. We thank you for your understanding and patience as we will get better with each day.
Some of you have BPS Chromebooks that ask for login information, or you might want to start using the http://bostonpublicschools.org/backpack to access independent work and assignments. In order to sign on to your child’s account, you will need their email and password information.
Your child's BPS ID/email is typically their first initial followed by their last name. Their passwords are typically their 8 digit birthdate. For common names, there may be a number after the last name. For example:
My name is Joanna Cruz. My “@bostonk12.org” email might be jcruz, jcruz2, jcruz3... and so on. My password would be my 8 digit birthday. If I were born on 9/1/2020 my password would be 09012020.
If you cannot remember or figure out your child's username and password, you may call the BPS helpline to ask for the information at 617-635-8873. Or directly to the school.
On Wednesday, at 10am we will have another “How To” workshop for families. This workshop will teach you how to log into Clever, Zoom, and SeeSaw. Here is the meeting information:

Also, the Boston Public Library will offer free online homework help and mentorship on Zoom provided by trained high-achieving high school students. The Homework Assistance Program or HAP (formerly called Homework Help) is open to students in grades K-8 on a drop-in basis, no registration is required.
Schedule: Monday - Thursday 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. from September 21, 2020 - May 14, 2021. HAP is not offered during school holidays or vacations.
You can call to this Zoom in that schedule to receive help: https://boston-public-library.zoom.us/my/hap01
If you have the EB Public Library Card, there is an easy way to pick up books from the Library. They have created a google form to help with ordering books. All the student or caregiver has to do is fill out the google form, and the library will take care of the rest. The forms are in English and in Spanish. Here are the links for them:
Again, we thank you for all of your flexibility and grace as we launch the school year.

Good afternoon Adams Families!
We are so excited to see everyone tomorrow at 8:00 am as we begin our remote learning. You should have received a link to the first online Zoom from your child’s teacher over the weekend. If you have not received this link, please contact the school tomorrow morning after 7:00 am. You can also email Principal Cruz for the link. The email address is jmckeigue2@bostonpublicschools.org.
Our teachers will be trying many new things to engage students in learning. We hope that you will show flexibility and grace as we start the year. There should be a healthy mix of online teaching as well as activities away from the screen. On Wednesday’s there will be shortened online classes and more asynchronous learning so that we can provide space for teachers to plan and engage in their own learning.
BPS continues to provide free breakfast and lunch to all Boston children. A variety of packaged meal options are available for pick-up. Food can be picked up at the Mario Umana School as well as East Boston High School.
We are awaiting the delivery of more Chromebooks. If you do not have a Chromebook, please request one using the form below. If you have a broken or lost device you will also need to fill out a form.

We got this!
