On Sunday, December 1, at 2 PM, Judge Gloria Chan of the Massachusetts Judicial Court and State Representative Kay Khan will host a lecture at the Newton Free Library for high school students. They will provide detailed guidance on selecting college majors, preparing in high school, and exploring related career paths. High school students interested in public service or the pre-law track are encouraged to register and attend.

Topol Fellows Guest Speaker Series: International Human Rights Law & American Foreign Policy
On Thursday, November 21 from 2:30-3:30 in room 307 the Topol Fellows and Amnesty International will be hosting Professor Amy Van Zyl-Chavarro who will discuss International Human Rights Law and American Foreign Policy. She is a visiting researcher at Harvard Law School, where she is researching the idea of a human right to the environment. For several years, she taught International Human Rights courses at Suffolk University Law School and later at Roger Williams University School of Law. Since 2012 she has partnered with the Human Rights and Indigenous Peoples Clinic at Suffolk Law School on research and advocacy projects. Snacks will be provided!

Issue VII contains: a review of the Taiwanese drought through the lens of the global economy and climate change, the dificulties of passing democrat-favored legislation in the current Senate, hesitancies surrounding the vaccines, and internal disagreements in priorites within the GOP.

Issue VI contains in-depth reporting on Prince Philip's life and legacy, the trial of Derek Chauvin, and shorter updates and summaries of the COVID crisis in India and the effects of the Ever Given in the Suez canal.

BLS V.O.T.E. hosted two documentary showings today!
We showed two documentaries- one on the corruption of the Russian government and another on the 2021 Myanmar Coup d'état. We paired that with a following discussion and complementary Padlet. The documentaries were titled: Alexi Navalny's "A Palace for Putin. The Story of the Biggest Bribe" which investigates the funds given for President Putin's residence and in a more broader perspective the internal corruption of the Russian government socially and economically, and "Inside Myanmar's Crackdown," a short documentary Al Jazeera about the 2021 Myanmar coup, and more specifically the people and groups affected by this and the following protests and international response.

BLS V.O.T.E.'s fifth issue is out now, on April 5th!
Issue V is packed full of critical and fascinating news, including the political situation in the Republic of the Congo, the issue of abolishing the death penalty, holding Biden's selection of his cabinet accountable, and the Boulder shooting.

Issue IV contains more articles than ever before, stretching from Anti-Asian American hate and acts of violence to the stimulus check to Alexei Navalny. It has many more articles besides, any they are all available at the link below.
