User Acceptance Testing, or UAT, is the final stage in software development where real end-users test the product in realistic scenarios, focusing on usability and real-world functionality rather than just technical bugs.
UAT ensures the system meets user needs, supports business processes, and is ready for rollout.
UAT also allows the project team to get feedback from testers that can be used to tailor communications and training for all end users prior to rollout.
The User Acceptance Testing (UAT) group for the City’s new Fluid Employee Self-Service (ESS) and Manager Self-Service (MSS) interface will help us validate that the new experience is functioning as expected, and ready for rollout. Rollout is tentatively planned for May 2026, with a pilot group using the functionality starting in February.
Testing begins on Wednesday, January 28, 2026
Testing is scheduled to end on Friday, February 6, 2026
How much time testing takes will depend on the individual; however, we estimate a total time commitment of about 2 hours:
Attend kick-off/instructional meeting; recording will be shared with those unable to attend (~30 minutes)
Set up Test Access Boston account (~5 minutes)
Complete a set of short, guided self service tasks in the new interface (~30 minutes)
Explore the new interface independently (optional, ~30 minutes)
Provide feedback, including ease of use, clarity, and any issues encountered (varies, ~15 minutes)
