Just a few reminders when dropping off and picking up your child/children at JHS. Parents are encouraged to use the Monroe Street entrance, but it is important not to park in front of the neighborhood driveways to avoid inconveniencing residents. Please remember to follow all posted street signs and traffic regulations. When using the car line in front of JHS, please make sure to pull all the way up to ensure smooth traffic flow and reduce congestion during busy times. Your cooperation helps maintain a safe and efficient process for all. Thank you!
The beginning of the school year has been both relaxing and exciting in art class. Mrs. Halliwell's students at all levels have composed acrostic poems that describe our "group norms" using words such as responsible, thoughtful, harmonious, engaged, hard-working, inventive, and grateful. Students then signed posters featuring these poems, showing that they intend to help create and maintain the type of Art Class culture and environment that is pleasant and meaningful for all. Middle school artists are working on creating a colorful, collaborative art display for Back-to-School Night! Here are a few snapshots from this past week.
Thank you to all the families that attended the JHS Back to School Night. We truly appreciate and value your partnership! We are eager to keep the lines of communication open so that we can work together to support the success of your student.
Welcome Back! We’re so excited to start a brand-new school year! Now, let’s talk about that after-school conversation:
Parent: "How was your day?"
Child: "Fine."
Parent: "What did you do?"
Child: "Nothing."
... Sound familiar?
We know it can be a challenge to get more than one-word answers! But fear not, here are a few fun (and sneaky) questions to get the conversation flowing. Disclaimer: Do not attempt all at once—side effects may include eye rolls and deep sighs.
Try these out:
What made you laugh today?
Who was your favorite subject today? (No, we don't mean math!)
What was the best part of your day?
Who’s your lunchtime buddy?
What’s the coolest thing you learned today?
What was the hardest thing you learned?
When were you really happy today?
If I asked your teacher about you, what would they say? (Be prepared for wild responses!)
How did you help someone today?
With these, you’ll be unlocking the mystery of your child's school day—one question at a time!
