Welcome to Preschool

We had an amazing first few weeks of preschool! Teachers and children were excited to meet one another, make new friends, and begin building a warm classroom community. During these first weeks, the children learned classroom rules, routines, and expectations that will help them feel comfortable, confident, and successful throughout the school year. They also enjoyed playing in the different learning centers, exploring classroom materials, and discovering all the exciting opportunities their new classrooms have to offer. We are so proud of how well our preschoolers are adjusting and look forward to a wonderful year filled with learning, friendships, and fun!

We had a wonderful week in preschool as we continued getting comfortable with our classroom routines and getting to know one another! The children enjoyed sharing news about their families and talking about who they live with. We also practiced our daily routines through songs, movement, calendar, weather, and fun attention and self-regulation games.

This week, we explored the idea of family through stories, conversations, and Make-Believe Play. The children loved dressing their babies, learning how to feed them, and talking about how we take care of our families. We also had lots of opportunities for hands-on exploration and creativity! The children enjoyed working with Play-Doh, using different tools and shapes to create their own designs, building and experimenting with a variety of manipulatives, and working together to create with blocks and magnetic materials. During outdoor play, the children had fun riding bikes, exploring the playground, and enjoying time with their new friends. It was wonderful to see their creativity, cooperation, and growing independence throughout the week!

This week, we continued getting to know one another and becoming more comfortable with our classroom routines and expectations. The children practiced following our daily routine, learning some of our class rules, and discovering all the fun and exciting things our classroom has to offer!

The children were introduced to our six classroom centers and had opportunities to explore and practice using each area appropriately:

🎭 Dramatic Play – using imagination, pretending, and developing language skills
🧱 Blocks – building, creating, and developing problem-solving skills
🧩 Table Toys – practicing fine-motor skills, matching, sorting, and problem solving
📚 Literacy – exploring books, letters, sounds, and early writing skills
🔬 Science – observing, exploring, and asking questions about the world around us
🎨 Art – creating, experimenting with materials, and expressing ourselves through art

The children are learning that centers are a wonderful opportunity to make choices, play cooperatively, and learn through hands-on experiences.

In math, we worked on spatial awareness by using puzzles and a variety of hands-on manipulatives. The children practiced noticing how objects fit together, recognizing shapes and positions, and thinking about how pieces can be moved and arranged to solve a problem. 🧩

The children were introduced to our Message of the Day, a daily activity that takes place during our opening group time. This activity introduces and reinforces many important pre-reading and early writing skills.

As we work with our daily message, children will practice concepts such as noticing letters and words, listening for sounds, recognizing their names, understanding that print carries meaning, and learning that we read and write from left to right.

We are just beginning to learn our classroom routines, and the children are doing a wonderful job becoming familiar with their new classroom, teachers, friends, and all the exciting learning opportunities ahead! ❤️
