UPDATES AND INFORMATION
The Boonton Fire Department visited the schools this week. The children learned some important fire safety skills, how to stop, drop, and roll, and how to crawl low to avoid smoke inhalation during a fire.
All preschool children are screened by our preschool teachers with the ESI-3 upon entering our program. This screening gauges several developmental domains and assists in identifying children in need of additional assistance. It is a tool to help teachers meet the needs of each child. The ESI-3 looks at children by quickly sampling their skills across areas of language, reasoning, gross motor, fine motor, and social development. Screenings will take place in the classrooms during the next two weeks.
New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH) mandates that all children six (6) months through fifty-nine (59) months of age attending any licensed child care center or preschool facility (including pre-kindergarten) receive at least one dose of influenza (flu) vaccine between September 1 and December 31 of each (N.J.A.C. 8:57-4.19).
The flu vaccine is required by state statute and compliance is mandated for a student to remain in school. Please forward the immunization record from your physician or an exemption letter to your school nurse as soon as possible in order to remain in compliance with this mandate. Non-compliance of this mandate, will necessitate the student to be excluded from school until compliance is met, effective 12/31/22.

Our class has been enjoying the beautiful fall weather. During Gross Motor activity time students enjoyed running and catching the falling leaves in our play yard. We brought some of the leaves inside and put them into our science center to explore. Students discovered that the primary colors they mixed together with our fingerpaints created some of the same colors as the leaves they brought in.
This was Fire Prevention Week and our students were so excited to see the fire truck and meet some Boonton firefighters. They learned about fire safety and practiced how to stop, drop and roll.
Our class is having fun with Buddy Reading. They enjoy choosing books and “reading” them to a buddy. This is a fun activity for all of our students as the younger ones tell their buddies about the pictures on the pages and our older students try to sound out the words using the sounds they are learning.
In our dramatic play center, students continue to work on fine motor skills as they cut out coupons and pictures from the shopping circular of items they want to buy for their families. They are using literacy skills as they create their shopping list and write the name of the food that they want to buy.
This week we had a special visit from the Boonton Fire Department! We learned about fire safety, the different parts of the fire truck, and even got to sit inside! We continued our Family Theme in the classroom. We worked hard making props for the bathroom, garage, and living room. Friends practiced fixing the car, washing the babies, and watching TV. During math small group we played Attribute Game Shapes and Remember and Replicate. During literacy small group we read Let's Pretend Garage, Let's Pretend Bathroom, and Let's Pretend Living Room and made connections to our classroom and family.
