Taking Turns in Preschool

Taking turns is a tough task as even the most grown-up man can show impatience waiting for his turn in a long queue. It’s a critical skill that becomes challenging for parents to teach as young kids don’t know the literal meaning of patience and are always in a hurried state. If a child isn’t well versed with the power of taking turns at the correct time he’s bound to have trouble valuing time and practicing patience. The articles below will provide you with hints to facilitate the acquisition of this skill.

Please contact your child's teacher if you have any questions.

FEATURING MRS. BURKE'S CLASS

Mrs. Burke’s class had so much fun creating and decorating their leprechaun traps. Although they didn’t succeed in catching that pesky leprechaun, we came up with some great ideas to capture him and had a great time seeing all the silly messes he left in our classroom!

This week in Mrs. Burke’s class, we dove into our Pets and Vets theme. We are learning all about animals, their habitats, and what they need to survive. We learned the difference between ‘domestic’ and ‘wild’ animals. We also used our letter-sound recognition skills to create our very own labels for our Pet Store in our Dramatic Play center. We checked out some super cool animal X-rays in our Veterinary Clinic in the Science Center and matched them to the correct animal by using describing words like ‘tail, long/short legs, long/short torso”! We created our own materials for our Pet Store as well; we worked on our fine motor skills by cutting super small pieces of paper to make bird seed and dog food! We also made habitats for animals we are selling in the Pet Store, like a turtle tank with a lot of brown pebbles on the bottom! We also have more animals in our Art Center, we love cutting out animals and creating habitat dioramas. We are using animal counting cards for our Making Collections, and sorting different types of dog and cat toys. We hope everyone had a great week!

FEATURING MS. MINEVA'S CLASS

We had another fun week in preschool! To continue with our Pets and Vets theme, our class got a pet fish to help us learn how to take care of a pet.

In Math, students created a Venger collage. The students practiced their fine motor skills by cutting the shapes, coloring, and gluing them on a piece of paper. They used their imagination and creativity to incorporate the colored geometric shapes into their Venger Drawings. Then, the children wrote a sentence describing their creation. What great ideas the children had- they made ice creams, tractors, monster trucks, houses, people, donuts, etc.

In Science, we learned about why objects sink or float and did our own experiment, where the children had to guess if an item would sink or float.

This week, in Literacy, the students worked on expanding their phonological awareness. We practiced breaking words into syllables. The children had fun learning how to break words apart by clapping on each syllable.

To practice rhyming, we read  “It’s raining, It’s Pouring,” “Chicka Chicka Boom Boom” and we sang “One, two, buckle my shoe” for our transition song.
