A Word from our Interventionists
What is Phonemic Segmentation?
Phonemic segmentation is an important Phonological Awareness skill. It is the ability to segment, or separate, sounds and identify ALL the sounds, or phonemes, in words. Phonemic segmentation helps learners develop reading and spelling skills and in turn improves literacy growth. Here at SSS our kindergarten and first-grade teachers offer models and daily opportunities for students to practice this essential skill. For more insight and/or questions please contact us at laura.baseil@boontonschools.org and debbie.gleeson@boontonschools.org.
Art with Mrs. Laderach
Second Grade students have been working on their landscape projects. Using various kinds of lines they drew out a landscape. Students are painting them using their knowledge of color and different painting techniques.
First Grade students are in the process of creating the decorations for their Musical “Commotion in the Ocean” which will be held on March 31st.
Kindergarten students have been making colorful Zebras. Students first made their decorative papers using lines, colors, and patterns. Then they cut out the body parts and glued them together.

PE with Mrs. Sudak
9 Square in the Air is a fun and addicting game that combines skills used in volleyball with 4 Square. Our classes have been engaging in friendly competition while improving hand-eye coordination, reflexes, and strategic thinking. Additionally, this game encourages social interaction and teamwork, as players must work together to keep the ball in play and eliminate other players from the game.
Music with Ms. Cunningham
March is Music In Our Schools Month!
Kindergarten musicians are working on how to find a partner and switch to a new one quickly while practicing kindness. We are focusing on teamwork with game songs such as Alice the Camel.
First graders are enjoying taking turns with the different roles in our show before we present it to the community on March 31st.
Second-grade students are exploring melody with the boomwhacker tubes while making cross-curricular science connections to properties of sound. They are also working on developing their own rubric for movement and dancing.
Congratulations to this week's winners who were called to choose from the prize box!
