Author and illustrator Rashad Malik Davis spent the day at JHS to talk to students about his accomplishments as an artist. Mr. Davis, a native of New Jersey, presented an assembly on the different children's books that he has written. He also showed students how he creates his drawings. After the assembly for grades 3-6, he met with various small groups in the library and talked more about what he does as an author and inspired children to follow their dreams and goals despite some of the obstacles they may encounter throughout their lives. Thank you to Mrs. Sudak for bringing this renowned author to JHS and to the PTA for helping to sponsor this wonderful event!
We continue to focus on our different character traits throughout the school year that focus on our overall them of JHS Has Heart. This month we focused on students who showed empathy for others. Congratulations to all our Junior Bombers who "Earned Their Wings" for the month of February. During the month of March, we will be on the lookout for students who demonstrate self awareness.
This week students in Ms. Kovall's class learned about the water cycle. The students learned about how water cycles through evaporation, condensation, precipitation and runoff. The students created their own water cycle in a bag and observed the process of the water cycle in action.

Keep in mind, as parents you have the ability to monitor what kind of food and how much food your child(ren) consume through the school cafeteria. When you are logged in to your parent portal, click on food services on the left side and you will see the following options:
-Purchase History - This allows you to see what food/drinks and how much your child has purchased up until their last meal.
-Item Exceptions - This allows you the ability to discontinue the purchase of certain foods/drinks at your discretion.
Please be vigilant with your child, that they are making healthy choices while they are away from you at school.
Please check your Realtime Parent Portal for second marking period grades. We are very proud of our students efforts in being the best students they can be! Also, attendance letters are available to view under the correspondence tab. Attendance letters are sent out once students meet attendance thresholds. The NJDOE has prioritized a measure of Chronic Absenteeism that our schools are accountable to. Chronic absenteeism occurs when a student misses 10 percent or more of the school days in session for which that student was enrolled. If a student is enrolled for the full school year, acquiring 18 or more absences equates to being chronically absent. Please feel free to reach out with any questions.
