Kentucky is part of the WIDA (World-Class Instructional Design and Assessment), a consortium of states dedicated to the design and implementation of high standards and equitable educational opportunities for English learners. WIDA has created many research studies, educator resources, and training resources to help meet legal and program requirements for ELs.
Every January/February, all of our English Learners grades Kindergarten through 12th grade take the ACCESS test. This test is required by Kentucky to meet federal requirements, and is used to monitor students' progress in learning academic English. Scores from this assessment will be sent home to you and usually arrive before the end of the school year. The ACCESS test assesses the four domains of language: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing.
We hope the resources from WIDA below will help you understand what the ACCESS test is and how we use the results. For additional information, please go to the WIDA website.
