CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS (AKA VOC)
Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs are available to BEHS students through Portland Arts & Technology High School (PATHS) and Westbrook Regional Vocational Center (WRVC). These are mostly two-year sequential programs, but there are also some one-year programs. Students have the option of attending WRVC or PATHS depending on the program they wish to pursue. Students should check with their school counselor to make sure they are on track with the necessary courses for their post-secondary education and career goals. Students AND parents/guardians will sign a contract that outlines expectations for grades, attendance, and behavior. Enrolling in CTE programs counts as elective credit, however specific programs do offer integrated credit in Math, ELA and/or Science depending on the program. Transportation for students is by the MSAD #6 district’s transportation department on school buses.
To apply for a program, students must complete a full session visit to WRVC/PATHS. All visits are scheduled through student’s sending school counselors. Students must complete a visit before being able to apply. Once a student applies there will also be a virtual interview with the CTE teacher. Students find out if they are accepted into a program in the spring and course selections will need to be adjusted at that time. Students will NOT request these CTE classes during regular course selection in February.
