Venue Info

The Lavender Languages and Linguistics Conference will be held on the Boise State University Campus in our Student Union Building, known as the SUB (pronounced as a word).

The SUB is at the center of many of the amenities offered on campus, and includes a dining hall, casual dining options, coffee shops, bookstore, game center, information booth, and ample seating on both floors.

The SUB is located at the central transit hub of campus. Regional buses and both campus shuttles stop just outside of the main stairwell to the upstairs meeting spaces, and other bus service is available on the West and East sides of the main campus that connect to downtown and the airport.

The second floor of the SUB features the conference space and meeting rooms that will be utilized for the conference. Audiovisual capabilities are available, including speakers, video screens, and podiums.

In addition, the SUB hosts many student-centered spaces, including the Gender Equity Center, which is typically open and available to all interested students during weekday business hours. The SUB also features three single-user gender-neutral restrooms on the second floor (and one on the first floor), printing and copying capabilities, and more all within the same building for convenience to conference-goers.

FOLLOW THIS LINK TO BOOK YOUR ROOM

IMPORTANT NOTE: If booking an AirBnB or a Hotel that is not the conference hotel near campus, please be aware of where you are booking your stay and the means by which you plan to get to campus. Our transit system is not very widespread, which can make travel across town difficult without a personal vehicle, and rideshare options from areas further out can become pricey. The downtown and campus areas are your best bet for walkability or transit options.

Getting Here

Airport and Airline Information

Boise is a regional hub with connections to the world.

Boise is the largest city in the state of Idaho, and third largest metro area in the Pacific Northwest. As a result, our airport (Airport code: BOI) has connections to hubs for all major US airlines (Including Alaska, American, Delta, Southwest, and United) with international alliances and code sharing available for airlines around the world, making travel here easy to achieve. From most major cities in North America and Europe, flights can be found with no more than one connection, though two connections may be necessary from secondary cities. Direct flights are available from 27 cities around the country and growing, including large cities such as: Atlanta, Austin, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles Area (LAX, SNA), Minneapolis, Nashville, New York City, Phoenix, Portland, Salt Lake City, San Diego, San Francisco Bay Area (SFO, OAK, SJC), and Seattle. Our airport is also conveniently located just 4 miles (6.5km) from downtown (3.5 mi/5.5km from campus), with weekday and Saturday bus service, rideshare and taxi options, and car rentals on site.

Rideshare

Lyft and Uber are available for both drop off and pick up at the Boise Airport, with a designated pick up location on the upper level. Details are available HERE

Taxis and Shuttles

Taxis and courtesy shuttles (if offered by a hotel) can be found in the lower level upon arrival by following the posted signs.

Rental Cars

Rental cars are available at the Boise Airport in the downstairs area after exiting from the terminal on the way to the baggage claim. Most major rental companies are represented and are typically open until all flights have arrived in Boise for the night.

Transit: Airport to Boise State or Downtown Boise

Valley Regional Transit is our local bus service. Fares are $1.50 per ride. Route 3 (Vista) or Route 2 (Broadway) travel from the Airport to Campus or Downtown. The Vista line is most direct, has a stop on the western edge of campus near the conference hotel, and ends downtown at the main bus terminal. The Broadway line is less direct, moving through several neighborhoods on the way downtown. There is a stop near the Stadium on the east side of campus, and this bus also ends at the downtown bus terminal. Route 3 (Vista) runs from about 6am-9:15pm M-F and 7:30am-9:15pm Sat. Route 2 (Broadway) runs from about 5:30am-9:15pm M-F and 7:30am-5:45pm Sat. There is no transit service on Sundays.

Details are available at the Valley Regional Transit Website

Driving

If anyone is coming by car, Boise is located along Interstate 84, which goes between Portland and Salt Lake City. Exit the Interstate at either Vista (Exit 53) or Broadway (Exit 54) and head North. The campus is about 3.5 miles north of the Interstate, and downtown is just over the river from campus.

Getting Around Town

Walking

Downtown Boise and Boise State are within walking distance for most people. It is about a mile from Downtown Boise to the Student Union Building by foot, either along main thoroughfares or with a pathway through Juila Davis Park across the river to campus. The Boise River Greenbelt runs along both sides of the Boise River, including along the northern boundary of the University, and is great for walking or biking in the area.

Rideshare and Taxi

Lyft and Uber are both available throughout the Boise area, and are priced by distance. There are taxi companies available as well, though most taxi service requires a call to confirm, as taxis are rarely available on the street unless it is a weekend night in a nightlife area.

Rentable E-Scooters

There are several scooter rental companies around town, including Lime, Bird, and Spin. They can be found readily on sidewalks throughout downtown and require an app to operate. You can get details from the city HERE

Vall-E Bike Electric Bicycles

A new program revived in 2022 by our local transit agency features pedal-assisted electric bicycles for rent through an app within Central Boise (including downtown and campus areas). Details on this program and how to use the bikes is available HERE

Transit: Downtown Boise to Boise State University

If you are interested in going between downtown and campus on Weekdays, the Boise State Shuttle is available M-F typically until about 9pm. The shuttle goes in a loop from just outside the main bus terminal downtown to the main bus terminal on campus, located just outside the Student Union Building. On Saturdays, when there is no shuttle service, there are regional transit options to get to campus, though they run less frequently on Saturday and do not run on Sundays.

Boise State University Shuttle

Boise State University features a free shuttle service, with one shuttle circling campus clockwise (The Blue route), and another shuttle going from campus to Downtown and back in a clockwise loop (The Orange route). The Blue and Orange shuttles run from 7am-9pm Monday-Friday during the semester. Route information and updated shuttle information is available at THIS PAGE and Live Shuttle Updates are available HERE

Valley Regional Transit

Our public transit connects between downtown, Boise State, and the Airport, and runs standard service Monday-Friday, with limited Saturday service and no service on Sundays. Fares are $1.50 and details are available at the Valley Regional Transit Website

The main downtown bus station is located at 8th St and W Main St. The downtown BSU Shuttle stop is just outside this building, and inside the building and downstairs are where most bus routes originate.

To get from downtown to the Student Union, you can take:

(M-F only) Route 1 from downtown to University/Joyce, with a short walk across the street to the SUB

(M-F and Sat) Route 2 from downtown to Broadway Avenue, stopping at Broadway and University, which is about a 1/2 mile (1km) walk to the SUB west on University Dr.

(M-F and Sat) Route 3 from downtown to Vista Avenue, stopping at S Capitol and Ann Morrison, which is about a 1/2 mile (1km) walk to the SUB east through campus.
