The AVID elective serves to support its students through an emphasis on WICOR curricular strategies, which include writing, inquiry, collaboration, organization, and reading.
By reinforcing study and organizational skills, and encouraging students to take more rigorous and challenging classes, the AVID Elective seeks to ultimately prepare them for success at a college or university.
The AVID 12 elective course is the second part in a junior/senior seminar course that focuses on the writing and critical thinking expected of first- and second-year college students. Students will complete a final research essay project with research skills gained in their junior year in AVID. In addition to the academic focus of the AVID senior seminar, there are college-bound activities, methodologies, and tasks that should be achieved during the senior year that support students as they apply to four-year universities and confirm their postsecondary plans. All AVID seniors are required to develop and present a portfolio representing their years of work in the AVID Elective, as well as complete the requirements for the seminar course.
Scholarships
Our Wolfpack earns scholarships! Along with state and district-wide scholarship money, part of Timberline's fundraising goes to support the Pack as they enter college. The class of 2023 had two members earn our AVID Inspire Scholarship of $500 each.
