Leona Alexander has been a Gifted and Talented Education (G.A.T.E.) facilitator with the Boise School District since 2017. Before that, she lived and taught in the Denver metro area for 16 years. Mrs. Alexander has now lived in nine different states (and in Germany), and she is elated to call Boise her home. Mrs. Alexander and her family are excited to live in such a beautiful city and state where they can continue to nurture their love of camping and hiking in the mountains, and they are excited to add floating the Boise River to their yearly summer activities!
Mrs. Alexander was a professional musician before she started her journey in education and loves to integrate the arts in her instruction. She is currently working on completing her doctorate in educational leadership and policy study with a focus on equity in gifted education as she is passionate about ensuring every student has access to a caring and engaging learning environment.

We will explore how an idea can turn into something incredible that can be used to help others. We will also be exploring STEM careers, all while challenging our imagination while creating with our maker boxes.

Students will learn about personality and the inner workings of the human brain. They will explore what makes a decision/action ethical and how they might react to the situation.

The theme 5th grade will explore is Relationships. We'll explore relationship between people, between people and their communities, and between people and technology. We'll even dip our toes in some physics and engineering challenges.
Leadership
Essential Question: What makes a leader?
The theme 6th grade will explore is Leadership. We'll develop an understanding of leadership through a series of discussions surrounding real-world scenarios. The students will design their own community leadership projects and make a plan for continuing their practice into middle school and beyond.
