We here at Koelsch are excited to share that our garden has been established for the summer of 2020! Vegetables were planted on April 24th, and they are growing strong. Due to Covid restrictions, only school staff members have been allowed to tend to the garden, but once we hit a goal date of June 15th, we can begin opening up access to families who would like to sign up for a week of garden help throughout the summer. If you are interested in signing up for a week of garden maintenance, please contact Jonelle Guillen at jonelle.guillen@boiseschools.org.
For any of you who are interested in simply visiting the garden, and eventually harvesting veggies, please respect health measures that include:
1.) Physically distance - if you and your family are visiting the garden site while another family is present, please ensure you are maintaining a safe distance (at least 6 feet) between yourself and others.
2.) If you have gloves, please wear them. We are doing our best to maintain a sanitary garden site, which includes any tools used, hoses, etc. If gloves can be worn while watering, weeding, & harvesting, that would be great!
Thank you all for your support of the Koelsch garden this year. We are excited to offer up these fresh, free veggies for you to harvest and enjoy around the table. Please feel free to reach out to Jonelle Guillen at the aforementioned email address. Thank you all!

Koelsch Community Garden Mission Statement:
Our school garden's mission is to improve the health and well-being of students, families, and the larger community. "
Goals:
• Cultivate student curiosity and exploration.
• Support student nutrition at school and at home, and encourage every child's ownership over his and her own health.
• Cultivate children's joy in learning by providing opportunities for hands-on learning in school curriculum subjects.
• Provide opportunities for students to take on leadership roles. Support students in sharing their own ideas and having their voices heard.
• Make your school a healthier and greener environment by practicing sustainable gardening techniques that restore natural resources and by teaching students that small steps can go a long way towards creating a healthier environment.
• Teach students and community members about the joys of hard work and physical activity.
