Testing

After a student has been referred to the GATE program, they will be given an achievement test and a cognitive test. Both tests provide a snapshot in time of where the student is when compared to same age and same grade peers. Sometimes additional tests are given to provide better insight to the student's particular gifts/talents.

Parents must sign a letter of consent before the student is tested, and they will receive score reports/results for any testing completed. The test results, along with additional evidence, are used to determine whether the GATE program would be a good fit for each student. There must be a documented need that the student requires services beyond the general classroom.
