FAQs
How are students assessed in KS3?
Students will complete a 'baseline' assessment during the first term of Y7. This will be completed electronically and there is no need for revision. This will be used to get a picture of their scientific knowledge when they join us.
Throughout Y7 and Y8 students will complete mini assessments at the end of topics (so current learning) - teachers will set some form of revision for these as homework.
Throughout KS3 students will complete 4 'Cross-Trust Assessments' (CTAs). These assessments will comprise of a greater degree of content, from topics they have studied previously, across all three sciences. These assessments require a greater level of recall and the data from these will help inform how we group students going into Y8.
Are students 'set' in KS3?
In Y7 all students are taught science in their tutor groups. In Y8 students are broadly grouped depending on their needs in terms of pace and content.
How is science taught at KS3?
Throughout Y7 and Y8 students will have 3 lessons of science a week. The subject is taught as 'science' in KS3 but students will complete topics that are distinctly biology, chemistry and physics. The topics taught are listed at the top of this page.
