...visited our classroom for this unit. First was Dr. Natalie Carpenter from Middletown Animal Clinic in Fairmont, who graciously gave her time to talk to the girls about how she became a small animal veterinarian, where she attended school, her favorite animals to treat (puppies and kittens!), and what some of her most interesting cases have been. Also attending this day was Mr. McIntyre's own puppy, Mia May. Mia was very excited about her first day of school did paw-sitively well as she visited with several students and teachers.
Dr. Carpenter shows the girls some of the basic ways that she examines pets to guage overall health. She said that many of the things she does, the pet thinks she is simply petting them. However, she is feeling for lumps, swollen lymph nodes, and tenderness.
Mia relished all of the attention as she completed her duty as a live model for the examination. She was happy to recieve a good bill of health, and the compliment of being a "very good girl" for her age.
Finishing up her exam, Mia got a clean bill of health and is deemed to be in perfect health.
