An introductory guide for parents to access resources for children.
We all know the importance of seeking help when it is needed, however, knowing where to look is not always easy. Furthermore, availability of resources in a rural community can sometimes be a challenge. That is why I want to share with you a website, https://www.findhelp.org/, and it will help you locate resources available in your zip code. This is a wonderful resource you can use to find help for yourself or someone else. Many of the resources listed are national online resources that service our area as well. So please check it out when you get a chance…you may be surprised what you find!
Students in Jackson County Schools who need assistance with food can receive a grocery bag full of snacks every Friday. This is made possible by the Snak Pak program of Parchment Valley. Please let Mrs. Rake know if you would like to be added to this program.
We also have some other food items available in our Resource Room for students and their families. Please let Mrs. Rake know with any questions.

During this time telehealth has become increasingly popular. This includes mental health as well! If you, your child, or anyone you know is seeking virtual mental health counseling services, www.betterhelp.com/ is a resource you may want to check out! This site connects people with licensed therapists who provide counseling virtually.
You can get counseling in four ways:
Exchanging messages with your counselor
Chatting live with your counselor
Speaking over the phone with your counselor
Video conferencing with your counselor
You can use different ways at different times as you wish, based on your needs, availability, and convenience.
I would also like to share another telehealth resource with you. Necco.org is a website for counseling services for children, young adults, and their family members. If you or anyone you know would benefit from this type of counseling I encourage you to check out their website. They do accept some insurance providers.
Sometimes students need a little extra help understanding their assignments or just a quiet place to concentrate and work. That is especially true this year. With the increase of in-person instruction time comes more opportunities to receive help. Ripley High School will again offer FREE after school tutoring! There is a math teacher and one other teacher there everyday. This is a great resource for our students! Please try to take advantage of this opportunity if you find your child could use a little extra support. They do not need to sign up. They simply make their way to the library after the dismissal bell rings.
There is also an excellent free online “tutoring” website I would like to share with you called www.hippocampus.org. On this site you will find free video tutorials explaining key concepts in core subject areas. For example; in math you can select “Geometry”, then “Lines and Planes”, and it will show you an 8 minute video explaining this concept.
