GLENWOOD TECHNOLOGY SCOPE AND SEQUENCE
Basic programming of a game using the Scratch app
Code is contained in the programming blocks
Students use cause and effect skills to sequence programming steps
String steps together to create a game
Students learn from failure. When their code string doesn’t work, they must figure out other ways to get a successful outcome.
Digital Footprint Unit
Students learn how their interactions online, texting, cell phone and web activities leave a trace
Students analyze what can be traced, what is done with the data collected, who sees and uses the data, and how to create a positive digital footprint for all to see.
Students use learned information to create an informational animated presentation using the app Powtoon.
3D Design and Basic CAD Design
Use the app Tinkercad to learn the basics of CAD drawing and design
Learn the tools and techniques to create 3 dimensional objects
Analyze the engineering process
Students create 3D structure (buildings) and attachable nameplates
A focus of the unit is students designing objects and products that are useful in their everyday life. Examples have included phone stands, ring holders, grocery bag holders, pencil holders, headphone holders, etc.
Wooden Dragster Design (compressed air)
Discuss aerodynamics, drag, wheelbase, force, friction, etc.
Students design the car’s shape and wheelbase
I rough cut it and they sand, fine tune, and build it
A racing tournament concludes the unit
