Most colleges/programs prefer 2 letters of recommendation written by teachers and 1 letter of recommendation written by a school counselor. Students may also ask coaches and/or bosses for an additional letter. Students should ask teachers that they had more than once, or that they had in their junior year. Please note: students don’t need to have received an A in a teacher's class to ask for a letter. If teachers saw you struggle and push through, this can make for the best letter.
Please see the Class of 2025 tab for the School Counselors' Letter of Recommendation Google Forms.
Students should consider a topic that can be tied to future plans. For example, if writing about a hardship, don’t just stop at talking about the event. Talk about how overcoming the hardship will affect you as a future student, worker, person. Click here for some helpful tips. We encourage students to share their essays with an English teacher and school counselor for feedback!
