Unravelling the Lies

It was Friday night, and Hera was out with her neighbor Rachel. They were getting drinks together since both of their husbands were out of town on business.

Rachel and Hera decided to go out in NYC to an old piano bar that Rachel suggested they go to.

“The bar is never too crowded, and they have an awesome piano performer,” Rachel told Hera.

This was the bar that Aphrodite worked at. She wasn’t bartending this night, but Aphrodite enjoyed hanging out here on evenings when she wasn’t working. She happened to be sitting down at the bar when Hera and Rachel walked in. They sat one seat away from her.

Hera said to Rachel, “Zeus gave me his card and said that drinks are on him since he couldn’t be here. So, I’m buying the drinks tonight!”

Aphrodite overheard her say “Zeus” and became more curious about the two women. She began listening in on their conversation.

When Hera asked for the tab, Aphrodite leaned in close toward Hera to get a good look at the credit card that she paid with. Aphrodite’s jaw dropped when she saw Zeus’s name was on the card.

As the bartender picked up her card, Hera said to Rachel, “This place is really cool. We will have to come back!”

The two friends got up from the bar and started to walk towards the door.

Hera said, “Wait I am going to use the restroom really quickly.” Rachel waited by the front entrance of the bar, and Aphrodite followed Hera to the restroom. Aphrodite confronted Hera and told her everything.

Aphrodite said, “Zeus has been lying to both of us. He and I have been dating for almost one year.”

Then, Aphrodite pulled out his credit card from her purse, which had his name on it and showed it to Hera. It was the card Zeus gave her for buying groceries, and she used it to prove to Hera that she was telling the truth.

Hera grabbed the card and threw it on the ground. She was so angry she began screaming and then crying hysterically.

Rachel heard her crying and ran to the bathroom.

She saw Hera crying Aphrodite’s arms and was confused.

Rachel asked, “What’s wrong, Hera?”

Hera tried to explain, but her words were incomprehensible because she was hyperventilating. So, Aphrodite told Rachel what was going on.

After a few minutes, Hera calmed down and went to the sink. She rinsed off her face, and then clearly spoke.

“I have been suspicious of him. Now that I know, I will not just ignore it. I bet this isn’t the first time he has done this, and Zeus won’t get away with it this time.”

Aphrodite and Rachel nodded.

Hera had a plan. “Rachel, does your brother still work at Know-it-all News?”

“Yeah, he does, why?” Rachel asked.

Hera said, “Perfect. I think I know a way we can get back at Zeus and expose him. It would be the way we can warn other women about him too. Before we do anything, I say we confront that liar together. What do you think Aphrodite?”

Aphrodite agreed with her. Then they began to plan every detail that would go into their revenge. The first part of their plan was confronting Zeus at dinner. The women knew this meeting would make him anxious. They were looking forward to it, but Hera and Aphrodite were even more excited about what they had planned for Zeus next.
