21/06/21 - Digital Audio Workstation
L/o: To be able to set up a recording situation with greater independence.
· Have a look at the video setting up the digital audio work station (DAW).
· Have a go at setting up the audio interface together.
· Log into the Mac Computer and watch the 2nd video. Now have a go at setting up the system to be able to record by following the instructions on the video.
· Now record a small section of audio.
Create a guide with instructions to explain to someone how to set up and record using and audio work station.
You need to know:
· How to set up an audio interface.
· How to mic up an instrument to be recorded.
· How to set up GarageBand.
· How to set up GarageBand to be able to record.
· How to record and how to make sure you get the best recording.
L/O: To be able to record using a digital audio workstation.
• To set up a DAW.
• To set up garageband.
• To set up multitracks in garageband.
Watch the video to see how to set up and record in garageband.
Have a go at recording different sounds/ tracks.
For those not working on the computer to record. They need to write an instruction booklet on how to set up a DAW and how to start recording.
Mr Ince
L/O: To be able to understand what a basic digital audio workstation is.
Go through all of the equipment (what it is and what it does)
Set up the DAW and talk the students through it.
The students then need to have a go at setting up the equipment themselves.
Whilst they are taking turns they need to create a diagram showing how to connect a DAW.
See the video below.
Week 6 Lesson 6: To be able to set up a PA system for a rock band (guitars, drums, singers, bassist etc.)
Starter: To set up the PA system.
To set up the drum kit. This is includes the microphones. They need to be able to justify their placements of the microphones. How are they going to test them? How are they going to be sure they have got the best sound.
They then need to set up the other instruments they need in their band (set up according to the ability to the group).
EQ the band and the levels. What do they need to do to ensure that the band is balanced? How will they know?
Extension: To be able to draw a diagram of the set up. Label and explain their choices. Which microphones have they used? Why?
Week 5 Lesson 5: To be able to understand how to connect different instruments to a PA system.
· To set up the PA system with greater independence.
· To look at the difference between Direct Input (DI) instruments and using microphones.
· To look at how to mic/DI up difference instruments such as:
o Drums
o Guitars (bass, electric, acoustic)
o Singers
o Keyboard
Stater: Set up the PA system so it is ready.
Task 1: Be able to set up a drum kit.
The students need to learn how to set up a drum kit. Which drum goes where and how to be able to set it up for a band.
Next they need to learn how to set up the drum mics so that they are attached to the PA system.
They need to learn about blending the sounds of the drums together using their knowledge of EQ.
Whist they are doing this the others need to label a diagram of the drums. Then they need to label the drums with the microphones and which goes where.
Extension: To be able to research which microphones are best to record the different parts of the drum kit.
10/05/21 - CMD
L/O: To be able to understand the purpose of EQ.
Starter: To be able to name the different parts of a PA system.
As a group set up the PA system.
Attach different instruments to the system.
Explain EQ. - It adjusts the frequencies of the sound to make some clearer and some not. This is to make an overall clearer sound.
With the PA system, demonstrate with an instrument. Demonstrate when all of the knobs are turned down to what they are like when they are all turned up.
They need to understand what instruments are likely needing the bass boost and which are the higher instruments.
They need to complete the worksheet of instruments EQ.
Whilst they are doing this, let them 1 by 1 have a got at EQ'ing on the PA system.
Extension: If they have finished the instrument worksheet for EQ, they need to can look at how to mic up different instruments.
Have a good week,
Mr Ince
03/05/21 - Creative Digital Media:
L/o: To be able to set up a PA system.
Starter: To be able to name which items are an input and which are an output. Relate this to the PA system from last week.
Recap the names of the PA system.
Demonstrate how to put a PA system together. (A video will be put up after I teach this on Wednesday)
Split the group:
The first group will put together the PA system (using their manual handling techniques).
Second group will create a diagram demonstrating how the PA system can be put together.
They will then swap over.
Extension: For the students to create a video explaining how to put the PA system together.
Thanks
Mr Ince
26/04/21 - Creative Digital Media
L/O: To be able to recap the key features of manual handling.
Starter: Why is manual handling important? - To show their partner how to correctly pick up equipment?
To complete the worksheet on manual handling knowledge.
Extension: To complete a LITE assessment worksheet (from last week) and to practise moving equipment safely - they will need this when collecting lighting and sound equipment).
L/O: To be able to understand what an input and output is.
Starter: Watch the video on the document below on the input and out worksheet.
Complete the task on the worksheet.
L/O: To be able to understand what an input and out put is in relation to lighting and sound equipment.
Collect some lighting and sound equipment from the store cupboard in the music tech cupboard. Sort this out in to piles - what is an input? What is an output?
Have a go at putting together the lighting or sound equipment together (This can be completed by the staff member as they will learn how to do this in the comping lessons). To demonstrate the outputs and inputs.
19/04/21 - Creative Digital Media Term 5 - Manuel Handling and How to set up a PA System
Have a look at the Powerpoint. There are tasks within the powerpoint. Have a go at completing these.
