The Soil Agitator, as described in ASTM D7928, “Standard Test Method for Particle-Size Distribution (Gradation) of Fine-Grained Soils Using the Sedimentation (Hydrometer) Analysis,” is a hand-held device used to mix the soil suspension in the sedimentation cylinder. The use of this device eliminates the need for the hand tipping method.
You may be wondering, “Does it really work?” We asked that very same question to Richard Ladd. His response, “Works like a charm.” He was right. Using the Soil Agitator is easy and does work very well. We can honestly say that we won’t hand tip another sedimentation cylinder to mix the soil suspension again!
The device manufactured by Blue Rock Labs, Inc. is in general accordance with D7928 for dimensional tolerances and can be purchased by clicking here or visiting: soilagitator.square.site.
