As a practicing intern for CMHC I have a few insights I’d like to share in light of World Mental Health Day.

When something feels like it’s too heavy, too much, overwhelming, weighing you down.. the truth is, it probably is. It’s called “mental health” because there’s a balance in all aspects of health. We feed our bodies the right food, vitamins and nutrients and keep it active in whatever way we can to keep that balanced health, and our minds are no different.

In fact what you put into your body directly affects the neurochemical processes of how your mind functions, adapts and regulates. Being active and aware directly affects your mind too, especially how that health aspect is balanced.

Mental health awareness is recognizing when something is too much, too heavy, too overwhelming, or when something “feels off”, and knowing what to do when that happens. It means listening to your body, emotions and reactions. It’s understanding what you can do to better take care of the 2nd most important part of you after your heart.. and that is your mind 🫶🏻

Taking care of your mental health is as simple as learning what you need for self care. Is it a day to yourself? Is it peace and quiet? Is it deep breathing? Is it implementing fitness into your daily routine? Is it getting more sleep? Is it finally making time to read that book you wanted to read? It looks different for everyone, so find what works for you! But it’s ok to slow down and take care of your mental health! Actually.. it’s needed! 🌸 very needed. More than you know.

And more than anything there are mental health professionals who can teach you what that personalized self-care looks like with some empowerment and can educate you on how your own brilliant mind works ✨

I love this field and I have learned how VITAL it is to really pause to check in with your mental health and how you're feeling about life. ❤️

It’s your life and your mind, be kind to it. 🫶🏻
