I am very excited to be able to work with you and your child in promoting a happy, healthy, safe school year. Today's school nurse has the unique opportunity to combine the professions of nursing and education. In addition to monitoring communicable disease control, my role here includes health teaching, health promotion, health supervision and student advocate.
I will meet with your child many times while at Samuel R. Donald School. I will see each individually for health screenings, including annual height, weight and blood pressure measurement, vision, and hearing as required. Sometimes your child will come to me for occasional bumps or bruises while others visit for TLC (tender loving care) while working through personal issues.
I will call you for any immediate concerns or significant injuries since I believe good communication between home and school is essential. On the other hand, I would ask you to contact me or your child's teacher if your child is experiencing a particular health complaint or stressful situation.
Please be sure to provide me with your child's most current emergency phone numbers to expedite your notification in the event of illness or an emergency. Feel free to contact me at 973-838-5353 ext.203 or press 2 where an answering machine accepts messages 24 hours a day. I can also be reached by email at nvogt@bpsnj.org
SRD School Nurse
Mrs N Vogt
Please notify the school if your child is absent due to a serious illness or communicable disease. A physician's note is required for a student who has recovered from a communicable disease and is returning to school. The student must be seen by the school nurse before a final determination is made.
The exclusion times listed below are the minimum days a child should remain out of school for a particular illness. The school will honor the private physician's recommendation for additional exclusion days.
