Mrs. Emily Burrus
I joined the Bear Lake staff in 2024 and have worked in public education since 2003. I've been both a high school counselor and a high school and middle school teacher during my career. I have lived in the Bear Lake area for several years and am honored to now be part of the school staff. I hold a Master of Education in School Counseling degree from Grand Valley State University. The role of a School Counselor
School counselors are education professionals who are readily accessible to serve all students. Services can be delivered in individual, small group and large group settings addressing the primary domains of academic planning & support, college & career exploration & planning, and personal/social support. School counselors follow the governing organization, the American School Counselor Association.
Mr. Trevor Hodges
I began working alongside the Bear Lake staff in 2024 and have worked in public education since 2021. Prior to my role as the SafeNet Prevention Specialist at Bear Lake, I worked throughout Kalamazoo Public Schools as a Secondary English and History teacher. Born and raised in West Michigan, I am thrilled to be home once again and supporting my community. I hold a Bachelors in Secondary Education degree from Western Michigan University.
About SafeNet
Through Centra Wellness Network, SafeNet Prevention Services are provided for students K-5 at Bear Lake. Year-round, students enrolled in SafeNet can receive additional support in achieving their social, emotional, and behavioral goals.
Mrs. Sonya Broadbent
I started working at Bear Lake Schools in 2022, and have worked as a therapist in the schools since 2018. I grew up in Manistee and recieved my Bachelors degree in Psychology, as well as my Masters in Social work from Arizona State University. I am so excited to have the opportunity to work with the staff here at Bear Lake. I look forward, and am honored to be a part of helping to support our students Mental Health and overall well-being.
