Meet The Coaches
Head Coach
Christian Novak
My Name is Christian Novak, and I am a 2012 graduate of Bear Lake School.
I started coaching Volleyball to continue growing both as a coach and a person, I started at an assistant position so I could learn more about coaching the girls as I was going to coach both Varsity basketball teams that year. Then over the last 2 years I learned a lot about the game and really started to enjoy the game, then was able to learn how to teach it both fundamentally and mentally. I plan to keep coaching the sport because at the end of the day it’s about helping these young women grow and become their best versions of themselves and sports play a huge role in that.
Each night I expect the team to bring their best and simply outwork opponents, be good sports, and ultimately grow as an individual. I told them the first day of practice that I don’t care if they mess up but I do care about their effort and how they respond to said mistakes. It’s way too easy to beat yourself up and in doing so you end up playing worse. My goal is for all the girls I coach to understand that things aren’t always easy, and you must work hard, be good teammates, and simply not give up. It’s the simple “get knocked down 7 times get up 8” mentality.
I’d say a culmination of experiences, coaches, teachers, and family is why I am the person I am today. I’ve always had a team first mentality when it came to sports, “one man can be a crucial ingredient on a team but one man cannot make a team.” Then having parents and grandparents really push me to be a good man and follow what that is and then growing over the years and adding to that. Teachers who encouraged me to follow what I wanted to do and pushed me to start coaching (Mr. Prokes) as well as all the experiences along the way.
Thanks,
Christian Novak
