Reading goes far beyond just reading text and answering questions. If we want to make connections with todays' students then incorporating engaging lessons and ideas into the classroom will help students gain important critical thinking and analyzing skills. Students need to be pushed beyond memorizing information or recalling answers from the text. When students dig deeper, ask questions, analyze results, and connect to what they are learning is when a student is more likely to retain and reuse what they were actually taught.
Below are some ideas to help! No need to change your lessons or start over! These are just tools/pieces to incorporate in what you already have. You can be creative and use them in ways that enhance your teaching style because after all, WE ALL TEACH DIFFERENTLY :)
You know what you are doing with well thought-out lessons and activities, but if you need to add more rigor, critical thinking, analyzing, or evaluating then try out something new.
