Frequently Asked Questions

Dress For Success!

Dress for Success (above)! Difference between Business Casual and Professional!

1. Will someone coordinate my experience for me?

Answer: No. There are a lot of resources available to you and Rhonda or your adviser/teachers can help with resources, but you as the student are ultimately responsible for coordinating (calling/emailing/following up) on your experience. (Experiences can include: Volunteering; Job Shadows; Internships; Service Learning Projects; other experiences.

2. Am I responsible for my own transportation to and from the experience?

Answer: Yes. You are responsible for telling your parent(s) and / or guardian about your experience and will NEED to coordinate a ride to and from that experience. This can be done through RIPTA, walking or simply asking a family member or friend for a ride. Parents/guardians MUST be notified for each event.

3. Can I have my cell phone out at my job shadow, internship, volunteering event?

Answer: NO! Cell phones must be off and out of sight. If you need a ride home, this must be coordinated before you arrive. You can check your cell phone when you leave the experience...unless in the small case that a cell phone is needed for the experience.

4. Should I arrive right on time?

Answer: NO! You should arrive a few minutes early to allow for time to find parking; have someone drop you off; find the right office or business site; walking stairs or elevators.

5. Should I eat before my experience?

Answer: Yes. You should NOT be hungry while you attend an event. Please do not assume that they will feed you. If you are there for an extended period of time, please bring a lunch or snack.

6. Can I bring my friend with me to the experience?

Answer: NO! You should always attend an event or experience alone unless otherwise noted. If it is an event and you are going with a group of students, that is OK but if it is a job shadow or internship, please go alone.
