Least Favorite Trends

Happy New Year! It's 2019 and we all should probably know what trends are. But what people don't know is what other people think about them. So we surveyed students at Horizon Middle School to find out what their least liked trends were.

Slime

The least liked trend in this school was slime. Before we talk about how it became so hated let's talk about how this all started. In 2017 there was an Instagram account that was posting pictures of slime that they made themselves. But that was all it needed to become one of the biggest trends ever.

So the once popular slime has now become the blob of nothingness that you can roll up and stretch out and do all types of things with but all of which is irrelevant today. But how did it become so hated? Well, that's why we asked students around the school on why they hated it the most. The most common answer was that it was just disgusting and if you made a mistake while making it you're going to have a very hard time cleaning it up. Another reason people don't like it is because of how distracting it can be whether it's people begging you to buy it from them or people using it and that just takes your eyes and makes them drift away from what you're doing and on to the slime.

Fidget Spinners

Fidget spinners. They come in so many varieties, shapes, looks, texture, but the most surprising is their price. Some spinners cost $0.25 while others cost up to $20! Keep in mind that this is for a simple piece of plastic that can spin in circles. It's no wonder that it came runner up for our school's least favorite trend.

And most people said that there was nothing to it other than a rather obvious piece of spinning plastic. But not everyone had that opinion. Some people said that there was no use for it in school because it was meant for people with disabilities. As some inventions were designed to be like a fidget spinner, the earliest one dating back to 1933, but the trend started in late 2016 to early 2017. And it caused so much trouble that the teachers here had decided to take them away from people who had them. But now there is no more worry because all of the spinning from the spinners has gone away and now a fidget spinner is just literally a piece of spinning plastic that nobody would care about spinning.
