5th Grade Tours

Do you remember when you were beginning to transition to middle school? It made you a little nervous because of all the bigger kids, different teachers, and lockers. On the 17th and 18th of January, future students of Horizon Middle School came here to learn their way around their future school. Horizon's 2018-2019 6th graders say that they were most afraid of teachers and homework, but they were really excited about friends and lunch. Mr. Kurtz gave a presentation about sports, activities, and what 6th grade would be like. The 5th graders got to try out band and orchestra instruments like the flute, oboe, saxophone, tuba, and percussion. Husky Ambassadors gave 5th-grade groups tours of elective classes like Art, STEM, and Intro to Technology. Mrs. Zieman, the STEM teacher, explained experiments like the egg drop, solar cars, and water towers. Because of the awesome tours, the Husky Ambassadors gave, and Mr. Kurtz’s presentation, they should be excited for the 6th-grade year.

7th Grade Carnival

7th Grade Math Carnival

On the 23rd and 24th of January the 7th graders held a carnival from 10:10- 11:45 and 12:25-3:20. They created games based on probability, and then played the games and recorded the probability data. The idea originated from the Quest team, while Quest held a carnival for Christmas, Odyssey turned it into a probability based carnival. The Math teacher Ms. Kamphuis thinks that the students would enjoy the probability games that they have created. She also believes that it will help them practice. One 7th grader that participated in the carnival said that they enjoyed and learned from it. 7th graders will probably remember the fun experience.
