NFL Playoffs

Horizon's Hopes

The 2019 NFL Playoffs are here. The question everyone is asking is: who is Horizon rooting for? Our research team attempted to conducted a survey with the whole school, but had less than 10% of the school reply. Out of the 91 that responded the obvious favorite for the school is the Eagles, with 42 votes. The Eagles won the Super Bowl Last year which means we may see a back-to-back championship. Coming in second is the Saints with 16 votes. The Saints made last years playoff as the NFC South winner but were eliminated in the second game, being beaten by the Vikings. Ending up in third is the Cowboys who did not make it to the playoffs last year but have had a good season this year. The Cowboys got a total of 11 votes. In a respectable fourth place is the Rams who had total of eight votes. The LA Rams made it to last years playoffs but were sadly eliminated in the first round, which begs the question, will they go further this year? Next, on the lower end of the scale is the Chiefs who had a total of 5 votes the Chiefs made it to last years playoffs, but like the Rams were eliminated in the first round by the Titans with a score of 22-21 . In sixth is the Chargers who like the Cowboys did not make the 2018 playoffs but have had a good year as a team, they received a total of 4 votes. In seventh is the Patriots who had three votes. The Patriots made it to the Super Bowl last year but lost to the Eagles, however the Patriots have had ten Super Bowl appearances (the most of any team), and have had seven consecutive AFC Championship appearances. Coming in Last is the Colts who had only 2 votes and did not appear in last year's playoffs, in fact they have not made it to the playoffs 2014.

Horizon is rooting for the Eagles, but the ESPN's Football Power Index the Eagles have at 2.4% chance of winning, which is the lowest of any team in the playoffs. The team with the highest chance of winning the Super Bowl is the Saints, who have a 26.5% chance. The Chiefs have a 25.3% chance, the Rams have a 17.1% chance, Patriots 12.4% chance, Chargers 8.5% chance, Colts 4.5% chance, and the Cowboys have a 3.3% chance. We'll all have to wait and see who wins Super Bowl LIII (Sunday, February 3rd).
