Poetry Club Hosts Prof. Neil Connelly

On March 5th, 2021 we had a virtual guest speaker join Poetry Club to talk about the writing process for a little over an hour. Professor Neil Connelly of Shippensburg University and author of Brawler, Into the Hurricane, and other works, discussed via Zoom the importance of showing and not telling when writing creatively. He walked the students through a number of writing exercises, answered questions, and shared with them some of his recent work. The students enjoyed, and benefited greatly from the experience.

The Poetry Club offers the McDevitt community:

· Workshops for poetry, short stories, nonfiction pieces, etc.

· Publication opportunities for student writing and artwork

· 3-4 Open mic nights a year

· The Fallout Shelter and The 108

· A positive environment in which to grow as a writer

Please contact the Poetry Club with any questions or comments: poetryclub@bishopmcdevitt.org

Poetry Club’s literary journal The Fallout Shelter is published annually and is comprised completely of student works. It is a compilation of poetry, short stories, artwork, and photography. Our proud student editors work tirelessly gathering and selecting manuscripts, artwork, and photography created by the student body for publication. The journal is a culmination of their effort, ability to work together, and the expressions of the student body. The journal represents all grade levels, and is a true testament to McDevitt’s dedication to the arts, and its creative spirit.
